Hudson Hotel New York
Ranked #391 of 469 Hotels in New York City

This hotel has a great location for those looking to enjoy NYC. Close to Midtown, Central Park, Theatres, Columbus Circle, Century 21 and Whole Foods, it is a great launching pad for any destination. It has great entrance, with minimalist lighting, I suppose this is cool but sometimes it is nice to see where you are going. We booked a studio (medium size room) and our friends had a standard (New York shoebox). While expected, the standard is still a very very small room, so be prepared. The Studio is a reasonable size room although the wood panelling and overly subtle lighting made for a dark room. The bathrooms are basic and interestingly the smaller size of the Studio was not helped by the inefficient use of space in the enhance (no enclosed wardrobe) and bathroom (unexplained alcove). Our Studio apartment initially was a lower level overlooking the internal courtyard. Problem was the courtyard operates most nights with bar and BBQ and the noise and smell at this lower level was unacceptable particularly having arrived after a long flight and booked in for 9 nights. To the hotel's credit were moved the next morning to an upper floor outward facing room and had no further noise issues - although grateful for the change of room, given we had booked for nine nights some more thought to the room allocation would have been expected. The airconditioning is very effective but was noisy in both rooms, the original room the vent was in the bed head which was very noisy. It is groovy and younger crowd is evident. It trades on being uber cool and perhaps forgets it needs to start with the basic hotel accommodation principles. Staff were great in all areas and always very helpful and the bar areas downstairs and upstairs in the sky garden are fabulous and a great place to have a drink. I I know it is New York and cool but we were hoping for a little more sense of luxury expected for over $AUD330 a night (although free WiFi was good)

The best way I can describe my stay here is as 'fine'. Clean rooms, modern bathroom, good location, but I just felt like there was something lacking the whole time. There's no hotel information in the rooms (eg: does the hotel have a gym? I still have no idea), and staff were helpful only as much as they needed to be- nothing overly friendly, nothing beyond what we were specifically asking for (the exception to this being the Concierge staff who were always genuinely friendly).
As a mid-20's traveller even I felt out of place and unwelcome in the two hotel bars- I'm not sure who their target market is there, but it's certainly not hotel guests.
A convenient hotel that served its purpose as a base to explore the city, but not much more than that.

Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay. We're sorry to hear your stay was just "fine", certainly we want all of our guests to feel welcomed and have a unique stay unlike any other stay they have had elsewhere. We do not have compendiums in our rooms, but all hotel information can be accessed through our televisions. We hope this particular experience does not deter you from visiting with your family in the future. Please reach out to me directly should you wish to return to Hudson.

Excellent location - so close to Central Park.
The ambience is very young and hip and it felt like a super busy, cool hotel. The outside area was fabulous.
The only issue I had was woth noise. I had to move rooms in the midle of the night because of the noise coming up from the terrace. That being said - the staff were really helpful and shifted all my stuff with no fuss. The rooms are pretty tiny and the bathroom would be a bit of a squeeze if you were a particularly large person.
But good value for New York and there are some great eating places very close.

Room Tip: The higher up you are the less noisy the room!

Very cool atmosphere, bar scene is young and crowded, lobby is dark, hallways almost creepy, rooms are nice, clean, but very, very small. it's probably not the best choice for a business trip, but it’s something different. Free wifi. No restaurant or breakfast, but plenty of choice in the nearby Time Warner Center.

Room Tip: If within your budget, ask for an upgrade to larger rooms

sarosio,

Thank you for your review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our aesthetic and ambiance. We actually have a restaurant located on our lobby level, Hudson Common, which is open everyday beginning at 4pm. Common Express, our room service, is offered for both breakfast and dinner daily. We're sorry if you did not get to experience either of these options, hopefully you will in the future!

Let me know if you need assistance with future bookings at Hudson.

Sabrina

Much like the lively bar crowd downstairs, this hotel is about image, not substance. You should come here for the scene, but not necessarily to spend the night. The "modern, cool" look of the hallways and rooms only goes so far before you find yourself wanting a larger, more comfortable bed, an engaging sofa, softer, warmer edges to everything, better lighting and larger closets. But, if you are 25-35, looking for a great bar scene, want to be near Columbus Circle, don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room and travel light, this may be the place for you. A final word about staff: the hotel staff is wonderfully friendly -- from the reception team, to the valet, to the luggage/porter staff, and clearly well-trained.
