“Great location but very small rooms”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Stayed in this hotel for the duration of our stay in New York.

Hotel is in a great location, everything walkable and a great bar on site however the rooms were so so tiny, got pretty claustrophobic pretty quickly.

Nailbiter1,

Thank you for review from your November stay at HUDSON. Our standard room is only 150 sq ft, but we do have a large array of room sizes. I usually recommend our Deluxe category for those who need a little more space and our largest room category is our one bedroom Suite. If you return again to Hudson, I can go over each category with you in more detail to see which will be suit your needs.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Best,

Ginelle Correa

We wanted to visit the Sky Terrace for pre dinner drinks for a special occasion. The website said it was only open to hotel guests. Messages from the management and on TA threads assured us that from 1 May the Sky Terrace was open to the public. It isnt. We were there on 5 May and it was closed - only open until 8pm and only for viewing, not for drinks. We arrived at 8.15pm and it was closed.

At an outside bar we asked for cocktails and were advised to go to a different outside bar as they had a better selection of cocktails. But at that bar we were abruptly told it was closed. We looked at the Cocktail list and blinked at the prices and went to nearby Jean georges bar at the Trump hotel as cocktails were cheaper there.

Walking the corridoors I can believe the comments about the sizes of the rooms - it looked more like a prison than a hotel

Paul1962belfast,

I apologize that you were misinformed about the hours of our Sky Terrace and didn't get to fully enjoy our venues. The Sky Terrace has been open, but as you stated, only until 8pm. We do not currently have service on the Terrace, but guests are able lounge there and enjoy the views and relaxing vibe. Full bar service will start this week. Sky Terrace is usually open for guests and their visitors only, but please feel free to enjoy our other outlets including Library Bar, Hudson Common and Tequila Park.

Best,

The location is amazing, at least fro me, since it's a block away from my most favorite spot of NYC... Central Park, just a block away

very cool stylish modern lobby
fantastic bar, made to look like an old library with big leather chairs... soft music playing
nice pool room
great terrace, although it surrounded by walls on 3 sides and the view is nothing special, yet its still very nicely arranged, lost of candles and deem light in the evening and plants... looks like a romantic evening garden with benches

lobby was very loud on the weekends full with young people at what they called to be a club in the lobby opposite of the reception

we had booked a regular room which was absolutely tinny, and i mean TINNY
super small

overall, was the lowest price for the location, great hang out & atmosphere, small rooms

Dizaster81,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I am glad that you enjoyed our location and venues. If you want a nice view, next time you should check out our Sky Terrace on the 15th floor. This roof top bar has beautiful views of the city.

If you do return, I would recommend one of our larger room categories. We have 6 larger categories than the Standard room, and if you like, I could help you decide which would best accommodate your needs.

Hopefully we will see you again at Hudson soon.

Best,

Ginelle Correa

I recently stayed with a friend for a weekend, part business, part pleasure. Just about everything at this hotel was perfect. First, the basics: the front desk staff were extremely gracious and helpful, the bell staff courteous and very friendly, and the room was beautifully appointed and quite clean. Next, some extras: the free morning coffee was very good and served (not self-service) by a courteous staff member, and the decor was clearly influenced by a very creative artist and was worth some time to explore (I recommend wandering into the club area in the morning with your coffee- just look around!). The only small negative I would mention is that on some of the lower floors that overlook the inner side of the building, the noise from the club on the lobby level can be heard in the late evening. For us, this was very minor, didn't go as late as we thought it would, and was completely eliminated by turning on the room ventilation. If it's a concern, get an upper floor room, or one facing the street.

Room Tip: For a quieter room, ask for one facing the street, or one located on an upper floor.

Me and My wife had to stay for one night at New York and we made a quick reservation at Hudson Hotel. Though It was hard to find the hotel, as its name is engraved in the wall and its difficult to read with a causal eyes.

Nevertheless, we managed to locate the hotel and checked in ourselves. The reservation person "Olivia" was very friendly and was more then ready to help. Liked her service and attitude.

The hotel fragrance and music is amazing but the carpet is jaded. so the overall appeal is average.

I could see lot of people moving in-out from the hotel which gave me the belief that its a popular hotel and safe enough during Night.

We got our room on 14th floor and the two things which we didn't like was room size and the bathroom has a big see through glass wall. I am failing to understand why a glass wall in a bathroom? And room was too small, that if I would have definitely changed it if had to stay more than 2 days.

Finally, the sleep was good and we checked out hotel at 12:00. One of their employees was kind enough to call for taxi.

Overall, good people, lively but small space.

Chandan T,

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that Olivia was able to provide you with a welcoming arrival. Our Standard rooms are 150 sq ft, but we do have a large variety of other room categories that may be more comfortable, especially if you plan on staying for an extended time like you mentioned. Also, not all rooms has the glass partition, peek-a-boo shower. If you return to Hudson, we can definitely place you in a room that does not have this feature.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to return to Hudson again in the future.

Best,

Ginelle Correa

I've decided to stay in this hotel because is very near my friend's apartment, anyway...I think that even though it is very well located it is a very good place to be seen after work. The Hudson terrace is quite nice. People just want to take a beer and relax! Music is very good too!
The rooms are small and I guess for me was totally fine, but if I'd stayed with someone else would've been very crowded and uncomfortable.

Ddas84,

Thank you for your feedback. It seems that you had a wonderful time at our outlets! Our Sky Terrace is definitely a popular venue in the summer so hopefully you will be back soon to enjoy its full opening.

If you were to return, and did need a room with more space, please know that we have several different categories to choose from ranging in size from 150 sq ft to 450 sq ft.

Thanks again for your input and hopefully we will see you again soon.

Best,

We have been to New York a few times now and this was the first time we stayed at the Hudson hotel. Price wise it's mid range for the price of hotels out there.

Location wise it's perfect for us. We wanted to go times sq, 5th avenue etc and it was perfectly located for that. Just down the road from Central Park and walking distance to times sq and 5th avenue.

Rooms are tiny but that is what you except from a New York hotel. But very classy. And had everything you would need. And trust me all you need the room for is to sleep as there is so much to do. We were there for 5 nights and we were busy and the days flew by. If your looking to shop then you can shop all over new your or go to one of the outlets and its cheap. We did a day trip. If you want see the city then the best way is on the hop on site seeing busses and you can get on and off where ever you want.

Try the ice skating in Central Park. There is 2 but the one in the south of the back is better. The rest you can explore. Won't give too much away

But of you looking for a clean hotel with a great location this is it. Plus it's not in the heart of the city so a bit quieter. Recommend a room on the highest floor you can get as new your is very noisy. So to get some sleep you need to be high so you don't hear the roads too much.
