“A Special Occasion even More Special”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The night before, my girlfriend and I got engaged and I decided to take her into the city to the Ritz Carlton down in Battery Park. (The Ritz is one of our fave hotel chains). We drove in from LI and we pulled up and were greated by the valet team, who inquired about our visit. We told him the occasion and he told us to go right inside to check in. Upon arriving at the front desk we were greeted by name and out came a hotel employee with 2 flutes of champagne! Fantastic touch that went a long way. The room offered a spectacular view of lower NY harbor and Statue of Liberty. We had a phenominal meal at 2 West the restaurant in the lobby and the chef even sent out an assortment of deserts with a chocolate inscription of "Congratulations" on our enegagement. Prior to Battery Park, we stayed at the Ritz in San Juan, PR and we now know why the Ritz has the reputation it does -- outstanding service and outstanding food/bev (thanks to Jason in NYC)..all the way from the valet to housekeeping to the concierge...a true 5 star hotel.

We recently spent 4 days and 3 nites at the Ritz Carlton Hotel at Battery Park in NYC. The hotel was in a great location to view the harbor and Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island area. Actually this hotel was nice in that this particular area is very nice and not as busy as the rest of NYC seems to be, kind of like a separate area where we could relax and get ready for the next trip to the various stores. We enjoyed the suite with a view on 6th floor overlooking the Statue of Liberty and harbor area. The room service and restaurant food had some small issues, overall was good. I think the room should have had the carpet cleaned though, spots in several places. I normally don't complain, but since this was a "using my Ritz Rewards Points" stay, I tend to be more picky. The suite was very pricey retail wise, but really took alot of points to upgrade to a suite life. Everyone seemed nice and personable as you would expect from a Ritz, front desk staff seemed a little overwhelmed and not as friendly as they could be. Compared to other Ritz locations, this property rates about an 8 on a scale of 1-10.

Room Tip: You need to request a room with a view of the harbor if possible. They should be able to upgrade yo...

I chose the Ritz-Carlton Battery Park for its location on the New York Bay, and indeed the view from our room was magnificent an enchanting, from Governor's Island, to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. A touch of class was the telescope on a tripod, we used it day and night to explore the details of the Statue and of the Da Verrazzano Bridge, or just to look at traffic of ships, ferries and boats in the Bay.
Major downtown attractions are within walking distance, including ferries to the islands, Southern Seaport, Wall Street and the Financial District. The 9/11 Memorial is also very near (in August 2013 only the Memorial and the Museum Shop werte open, other parts were still in preparation). To go Uptown (or to Brooklyn, with its wonderful Museum and Gardens) there are convenient Metro Stops st Bowling Green and near the Staten Isand Ferry.
Our room on the 9th floor was not overly large. It would have been comfortable for two persons, but with the rollaway bed for our adut son it felt slightly cramped. WiFi in the room was not free, and I missed a coffee machine. Nice bathroom, with tub and shower,.
Breakfast at 2 West, included in our offer, was very good. No buffet, everything made to order, however this also meant that that it took a long time.
Personnel very efficient and helpful.
Altogether a very nice stay, I give 5+ stars to the view, 4.5 stars to the hotel.

Room Tip: Statue of Liberty view IS the reason to choose this hotel

Hotel property and rooms are relatively new and pleasant. Statue of Liberty views are amazing. There was a long wait to check in - something wrong with the system and many guests were frustrated. Staff were fairly cordial but I thought they could've done a better job getting everyone a drink at the restaurant or bar instead of having a dozen impatient guests wandering around the lobby finding places to wait for hours. Subway access is about a 5-10 min walk away. Easy access to Battery Park and the waterfront.

Room Tip: Well worth a Statue of Liberty view room

We often visit NYC, this is the first time we stayed in this area, usually we stay near Times Square. The hotel is really lovely, big welcoming lobby with friendly staff and sitting areas with great views. Our room was huge with a separate living room, enormous bedroom and 2 bathrooms. The staff was great, Carlos the concierge had lots of recommendations that worked out well. Nino, and I hope I am spelling his name correctly, saw that we had everything we needed from cabs to extra water bottles, anything we needed was provided promptly. The housekeeping staff really excels. Our room was cleaned twice a day, turn down service with chocolates, lots of big fluffy towels, and they were all friendly. It is a quiet area with much less noise and bustle. We tried the subway for the first time and found it fast, inexpensive and quite clean. Lovely views of the Statue of Liberty. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a Statue of Liberty view room

Ritz Carlton is always a pleasant experience, but Service is what separates them from any other hotel. I have come to expect quality at the Ritz, so the review should not suprise anyone, but the service I found at the Ritz set a standard that will forever be difficult to top.

Driving home from our vacation from Stowe VT was a real challenge. Weather was terrible traffic was miserable, and we were several hours behind schedule. It was very late, My children needed to eat and get to bed. I needed a hotel capable of handling a lot of particular demands including bringing my own crib for a child, and an SUV loaded with suitcases... all of which needed to go to the room just for a night. We arrived after 1000 at night, the children were already asleep in the car... I needed them up and in the rooms, dinner delivered, suitcases moved and crib brought to the room and assembled.

As expected the Ritz came through. I explained my needs to the front desk on the phone before arrival. When I got there, the bell staff was waiting and moved quickly. The car was emptied, and moved to our room without delay while I checked in. They figured out how to assemble the crib and had it ready when we arrived at the room. Room service was waiting for our order and meals were delivered quickly.

I could not have done this without the extrordinary service of Ritz Carlton.

Great choice if you are planning to visit the Statue of Liberty, Wall St. or other lower Manhattan attractions. Very friendly staff and you can get rooms with a view of the statue. The only bump was our room wasn't ready at 5:30pm so they allowed the entire family to enjoy drinks and food on the house while we waited. Worked out ok as we were tired after a day of touring so relaxing for 20 min. with cold drinks wasn't a big deal. Family friendly with cookies and milk delivered up for the kids at no charge. Also walking distance to Battery Park and 1 World Trade aka the Freedom Tower. First time at a RC so can't really compare to other properties. Would return.
