“issue-less stay at this nice Ritz hotel”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Very accomodating staff. Everyone goes out of their way to help you and direct you. Rooms are ultra comfy and offered some wonderful naps and nights of sleep. Great views of everything. Very accessible, despite it being at the southern tip of manhattan. was able to walk around and enjoy the sights. subway trains are 2 to 3 blocks away. George's restaurant around the corner was a great $20 breakfast for two. You can take subway lines 4 from bowling green to fulton street. 'a' train from fulton to howard beach. airtrain to jfk from there. total time 90 minutes. It's ten to 15 minutes from everything by taxi. You can walk to ground zero from this location.

Just wonderful in every respect from the welcome to the goodbye. This is in such a wonderful location and our room with a view of the water and the Statue of Liberty was quiet, brilliantly appointed with a huge amount of space which is the hard to find factor in NY. The service was outstanding and it's only 12 minutes uptown on the clean, safe and cheap subway. Staying anywhere else is is pointless :)

The walk from the hotel to the ticket line for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was just a few minutes. Plenty of restaurants that are within a ten minute walk away but if you want something quick and inexpensive within the hotel this isn't for you. The staff was very good at being friendly and interested without being phony.

We recently stayed here for 3 nights to explore lower Manhattan while on vacation. The hotel is in a perfect location for this - right on the edge of Battery Park overlooking Jersey City and the Bay. We had a large room on the 3rd floor with a view of the Bay and The Statue of Liberty. It was actually an excellent floor to be on as you could see some of the action outside but it was quiet with very little street noise (and I'm a very light sleeper). The first night we just relaxed, ordered some room service and set our table up next to the window. What a fantastic view and the telescope in our room was a nice touch. The room service was average and very expensive for what it was, but it was an enjoyable way to spend our first evening on holiday. The next couple of days we explored the area - visited the WTC, Financial District, The Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn (which was only 1 tube stop away), Soho, etc. If you enjoy walking, a lot of this can be done on foot from the hotel.
The hotel is very nice but, with the exception of location, is lacking something special. It's hard to put my finger on as we didn't have any problems, but I got the impression the staff did their job and nothing more. The little things go a long way especially when you are comparing it to other luxury hotels.

Room Tip: Recommend getting a room with a view of the Bay.

We have had a great stay. Loved the location - very quiet after a busy day with sightseeing.
Staff was very friendly, helpfull and professional.
Rooms beautifull and very cosy, nice bathroom.
Location close to the next Metro station, ferries in Front of the Hotel.
We loved the Italien Restaurant just arround the corner.

Clearly all Ritz Carltons are not of the same standard. This one falls in line with the level of a Hilton or Sheraton rather than a Ritz Carlton. Why?

1. Internet is $12.95 nightly and barely works. I had to login about every 10min. I would understand poor internet connection if it was free but definitely have zero tolerance for garbage internet when I am paying.

2. Housekeeping came to clean our room at 3:30pm after we had already returned to the room to relax. They are either understaffered or extremely slow.

3. Bought a package where we were suppose to receive 2 water taxi tickets. We did not receive them but still paid the full amount.

4. Sound travels quite easily from the hallway so not a great hotel for a good nights sleep.

5. Called room service because they forgot the water in our room. I was told that I would have to pay $5 a bottle for the water that is suppose to be free in our room. 30 minutes later the water still wasn't delivered. Had to call again and 30 min the water was delivered.

6. Very minor but this hotel does not have slippers...

On a positive note, the italian restaurant next door was excellent and the fitness facilities were quite nice. It would help if they got a fridge for the fitness centre so that guests can enjoy cold bottles of water after their workout. Just a suggestion.

We stayed here in 2010 and had an amazing club room overlooking Battery Park and The Statue of Liberty. The room even had a telescope, which was a bunch of fun after a few drinks! The room's decor was modern for a Ritz, but very comfortable with a lovely bathroom.

The club lounge here is a bit lacking, it feels like a suite turned into club lounge. That aside, the service up there was top, and our wine glasses were never empty.

Now for the disappointing part. Our opinion of the hotel was ruined by this hot-headed, loud and obnoxious bell man. He was in is twenties maybe, and would obviously ignore men to stare at female guests. After he would help you, he would linger and hover over you until you pulled out your wallet to tip him. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. I hope this hotel has since fired him. Last, we arrived well after check-in, and the room still was not ready.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view have such an open-air feeling, my partner who hates New York actually enjoyed...
