Stayed there on the weekend in november. Service was very average. Nothing special. Room was old and it need some TLC. Front desk staff were nice. Could use customer service training as a refresh. I guess the place needs renovation to compete with other luxury hotels. .

Love staying at this hotel--we usually go to NYC just for a weekend and enjoy walking around the city. The Union Square location is perfect for this! We love walking to the Highline, Soho, Meatpacking, Tribeca, etc. The rooms are pretty big for NYC and the hotel recently renovated its decor. There is usually a lot of activity in the hotel and there is a nice bar and lounge area in the lobby to enjoy cocktails. There is a Starbucks located conveniently across the square and it is fun to visit the farmers market in the square on the weekends.

Hi

The best rate I could find at this very popular hotel (quite big but was full on both nights I stayed here) was USD 620 for a single room - without breakfast!

It is indeed very well situated on Union Square, which explains it all. Other than that, it does not stand out for anything. All the rest is very average.

For example, look at the bath (pic attached). Also, the TV has to be fixed by the technician after i checked in ag about midnight. Also, the ice machine ln the 16th floor did not work over the period of my stay, no indication that it is broken, one just has to try every day!

They have no coffee-making facilities in room as a standard, one has to ask for a machine to be delivered, and then it is NOT a Nespresso, but some cheap substitute (without pressure). On day 2, they also do not automatically replenish the milk, one has to ask for milk (again).

I also found a vagrant sleeping on the bench outside my room, when I alerted management they acted quickly, but this raises and issue about safety (he was sleeping there for a while, I was staying on the 16th floor) - it was not a guest, he was later found near the breakfast area again!

The gym is very all, and in the basement, I would have expected a bigger gym with a bit of a view?

Nice front desk staff with a nice attitude, blow your money here, but only for the location, the W itself is nothing special.

The W's are always a hit in my book - cant go wrong! The hotel is in the best location, right in the center on Union Square and across the street from the subway. There are friendly doormen that open the door too. The hotel has a modern, hip vibe (not ideal for old folks). I had a double bed room with a great view of Union Square. Our rate included free "continental" breakfast, but my roomie and i went a little over and got big breakfasts; we expected the hotel to charge us for it, but they didnt! The only irritating thing is that wifi is $15 a day. Thats a bit much. Just be free, right? However, i would stay there again.

A huge thank you to all the staff at W Union Square for making another trip unforgettable. The Hotel is great and the staff are fabulous. From the moment we got in touch to say we were coming back to the moment we got in our car to the airport, everyone was wonderful. We had a Fantastic Suite (Thanks Gerald!!!!) which lived up to expectations and more - the swivel TV is a nice touch - and the view was breathtaking. Housekeeping were friendly and un-intrusive, the front desk always happy to help and the doormen extremely friendly. If you are looking for an excellent hotel with a good location to explore Manhattan, I can't recommend this hotel enough. Some great eateries nearby (Coffee Shop Bar, Union Sq Cafe and Gotham Bar & Grill all recommended), Subway is well connected and some good shops nearby. All in all a great place to base yourself in New York.

Room Tip: The higher you go, the less noise you will get drifting up from Park Ave and Union Sq. Be realistic, this is the middle of Manhattan - there will always be the occasional siren and you can't blame the hotel for that!
