The writeup indicated the leading lady has been in this play since 1987 -- it shows. She screamed her lines or threw them away like she was speed reading dialogue. She overacted and the idea that she teaches acting is horrifying. Richard Shoberg was the only actor with any ability, but what a disaster he's in -- like the lone survivor from a train wreck. Avoid this at all costs or the true crime will be the money and time lost watching this dreadful play.

The reviews for this long running play are glowing yet we found this play to be disjointed. He did not flow. I felt as if there was no getting to know the characters or story line. We have seen many on and off Broadway shows and this one was the most disappointing. See it for yourself and decide. Maybe it was an off day for the cast.

We arrived in NYC on Monday evening, (when most shows are dark) and went strait to the TKTS booth at Times Square to see if we could get anything. Unfortunately we listened to a nice young man who touted this show (kickbacks or commissions?).
It was nearly empty in the house and the four live actors were competent but just going through the motions. The emotions were phony, the plot varied from thin to non-existent, and the screeching histrionics by the female lead (who also apparently owns the theater!) were way over the top. I felt ripped off!

Not worth your money. I am glad I got this through a groupon because this wasn't worth the full price! Very small theatre but the play was sooo confusing! Please don't waste your time.

We went for the 11,000th show and nothing more. I read the reviews beforehand and as most of them are SO bad, had low expectations. I went because out of respect to the leading lady who has been playing the same part for 25 years.
This is old school whodunnit. It is fast, loaded with clues, mad and impossible conversations, Freudian references, drag, shot guns and a set that looks 25 years old. None of this matters if you go in with the right frame of mind. This is not serious drama, it is not a comedy, it is a fun, eccentric piece of Broadway history.
At the end of the play, it is fair to say that all but one person was confused. We stood around a great young woman who, though she was late in, understood EVERY single minute of the plot and explained in detail who killed who. It was FABULOUS to have her explain it all as it all really DID make sense. I promise. Without her input, we'd still be analysing it all now.
The leading lady deserves some kind of medal. Ok, at times she was a little careless in her performance but after 25 years, who wouldn't be.
We got two tickets for $40 which was about what is right for the theatre. In the UK this would be called fringe theatre.
