“A great hotel in an ideal location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

Stayed for six nights in April 2013. We were super impressed with this little gem. We found the location to be within walking distance of most of the places we wanted to visit, and when a subway was required, there are two stations to choose from, servicing 11 lines. The staff were always friendly and helpfull, and the included breakfast was plentiful and a great start to they days activities. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great value hotel in a quiet central location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back building, ours overlooked the courtyard and was very quiet, even with the...

With the hotel situated on a quiet tree-lined street, I felt like a real New Yorker each day as I departed and returned. The 414 is clean and neat with a European feel, close to the craziness of Times Square but far enough away to enjoy a down-to-earth genuine neighborhood experience, complete with a variety of affordable and tasty restaurants around the corner. The rooms are little and the stairs steep, but that adds to the charm. Breakfasts in the front room (coffee/tea, juice, croissants/bagels/bread, cereal and yogurt) and wine in the early evening in the back courtyard (complimentary on weekend evenings) was a wonderful start and finish to each day of exploring NYC. Overall an excellent experience.

Had a medical emergency ( we live outside washington dc )and was afraid we would have to cancel ,they bent over backwards to help us out . At the last minute , we were able to make the trip and the hotel stay was truly awesome . Super cool boutique hotel .Rooms very clean and modern( Kermit Frog greeted us on our pillow lol )big flat screen tv, check in desk person Mary (?) was so helpful ( she was super quick with check in so we could make David Letterman Show ), I think the manager's name is Jackie, was super nice as well( so understanding about emergency ) and I believe his name is Joshua went out of his way to helped us with our emergency and possible cancellation . All very professional . The thing I liked best was it has this really cool vibe in the hotel , I am no new ager, but it truly does ! It location is about a ten minute walk from Times Square , on a street called Restraunte Row , I believe .The breakfast was cool, (they had Fruit Loops cereal !) . Housekeeping were topnotch. The hotel was such a cool experience we didn't want to go back to our own homes . An awesome experience . Would definitly do the hotel again .

This little gem is located in the center of everything. The rooms are small but very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the staff were very helpful and courteous. You cannot beat the value of 414.When you really want to spend more time and money seeing the city instead of the inside of a hotel.

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel. We were looking for a quiet place near Times Square. This is a quiet place indeed. But it is also a little rundown, it is clean however and we had reasonable good size room, it is NYC after all.
The people are welcoming and friendly. Breakfast is complementary.
The service however, could be better, on a regular things like calling a Taxi for their guests.

And by writing this I am referring to a simple thing like organizing a taxi to a concert Hall in the evening. ( Lincon Center) The receptionist told us they could not order a regular yellow cab, but only a private car.
We had tickets for a concert of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and did not want to miss this, we decided to go for the private car option, the receptionist suggested. A "stretched Limo' appeared, and we were off. The price of the whole thing was not the problem, we knew this beforehand. But it was more the fact that a hotel like this one, was not able to book a simple normal taxi ride. I think any Hotel should be able to do this without a problem.
This was certainly NOT our first time in NYC.
We know NYC is full off transportation possibilities, but that is beside the point.
We got to the airport, by Yellowcab which we organized ourselves.

I've stayed with my fiancee for only one night at the 414 hotel.

Finding a good hotel with a reasonable price in the heart of NYC is not an easy task - but 414 may be the solution.

414 is a really nice small hotel, close to Times Square, Port Authority Bus Terminal and Broadway Theaters, but in a quite calm part of the 46th Street.

The room was spacious, new and really clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The only problem was the noise that came from the upper room and from the street at some moments. Not enough to ruin the night, but enough to not allowing me to give a 5 stars review.

As other reviewers have already stated, there is no elevator in the hotel, so be prepared to carry your own luggage up and downstairs.

If you are willing to stay in the region, probably you will not find a better option in this price range.

The 414 is a relatively small hotel, with a good location near Times Square with plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are ok but the bathrooms could do with some refurbishment.
Since they do not have a restaurant, the breakfast is a bit basic.
