A nice place, at a few blocks from Times square, the bedroom are quiet,
Quality of bedding is good.
By some aspects, we are in a B&B ( sahred kitchen, style of the breakfast...)

rooms are not really big but sufficient. Bathroom is not modern but is functionning :)

This is a small boutique hotel with a nice intimate homey atmosphere. It's actually 2 buildings with a really nice paved courtyard garden in between them, for a relaxing drink in the evening. The staff were very friendly and super-helpful, and the rooms were serviced really well.

Breakfast is included, which is not always easy to find in a New York hotel, and there is a little kitchen with tea and coffee facilities which you can help yourself to, up until around 9pm.

It looks like it's been renovated quite recently, as the decor is quite modern and nicely done. Really comfy bed too.

It's located on a fairly quiet street, but you only have to walk about 7 or 8 minutes before you reach busy Times Square. There's a great flea market on Saturday mornings only a couple of blocks away (Hell's Kitchen Flea Market), worth a look if you're into all things vintage. Macy's is about a 20 minute walk, and Empire State Building about 30 minutes. Central Park is about 25-30 minutes walk too, in the other direction. You can catch the subway easily from Times Square down to Battery Park if you want to visit Lady Liberty.

There are great restaurants around Times Square, and around the hotel too - you won't find it hard to get a nice meal. It's also very close to the theatre district - I saw Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam (very cute).

I really enjoyed my stay at the 414, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Book early, it seems to sell out fast. Also, ask for a room overlooking the courtyard, as it is qui...

Probably overlooked by most tourists because it lies outside the Tourist world bounded by 8th Ave on the west yet quite close to Theatre District, Restuarant Row and reasonable walking distance from Rockefeller Center, the Diamond District (47th St.) and 5th Ave, sits a little gem of a hotel, the 414 Hotel on 46th St between 9th and 10th Ave. Comfortable, friendly staff and reasonably priced it makes a great alternative to the overpriced chain hotels or bare, drab motel-like properties of the Theatre District. Don't forget the free breakfast. Give it a try.
Downside: small, spare rooms and as for an elevator, "Fuggedaboutit"

Room Tip: Try to get a lower floor or travel light since there is no elevator

We excitedly booked the 414 Hotel for a long-planned weekend in NYC. Several friends had shared excellent personal reviews from their own stays, and were looking forward to it. Even with booking nearly three months in advance, we had the next to last vacancy for our 2nd set of date preferences. Think of the 414 Hotel as your personal, private brownstone apartment: the location is perfect, the room excellent (and quiet), the staff friendly and the advance communication prompt. We were welcomed warmly for an early arrival and spent one night before Hurricane Sandy stormed up the coast. As Jersey Shore residents, we needed to head home immediately on very short notice. The 414 Hotel was so understanding and immediately offered a refund of the unused nights. They gave their best wishes and said that the refund would appear within 48 hours -- and called a few hours after we left NYC to be sure that we'd arrived home in time. The refund was processed immediately and appeared well within the 48 hours and before our power was restored. Their staff and customer service --- and entire management team --- are stellar, and we look forward to returning!! Thank you--- and what a great place!

We got 102 on ground floor. Room normal but with the unavoidable carpet. Room just big enough for couple with 2 suitcases. Bathroom surprisingly big, bright and clean. Very positiv. window facing back yard with 4 tables, this was October and still possible to enjoy breakfast outdoors. Had to, not enough space inside for all guests around 8 AM.
Breakfast was like at home, people around the table making it easy to discuss matters with other guests. Very simple breakfast but ok. Very helpfull staff. Location very good.
An unexpected pleasure in a big city.

Room Tip: Facing back yard.
