If you are looking for a new interpretation of a classic american breakfast (with the obvious French influences) then this is your place. You will pay upwards of 50-60 USD for the experience but in my view this is worth it.
Service here is excellent, even though the place was packed out when we visited. The waitress took us through the specials but in the end how could we ever look past the waffles. Ahh the waffles, they were excellent; one serving came with crispy bacon, runny eggs, syrup and cream and the other came with the freshest, sweetest strawberries, raspberries and blackberries you will find anywhere in NYC. The coffee was dark, smooth and strong - an excellent blend. Portions are small (tapas like) but importantly more than enough. The move away from traditionally huge (American) portions is definitely being adhered to here and throughout the West Village.
The layout is cozy and the decor is warm - the long bar is a hive of activity and a nice addition in a narrow space. There is an outside space at the back too which looked perfect for a sunny day. There are no reservations so first come first served. In the hour we were seated there was a steady stream of arrivals and departures so you shouldn't really need to wait to get a seat.
You can really sense this a meeting point for locals to discuss all things business and leisure. We couldn't help overhear the conversations of locals looking to collaborate and create in food, fashion, events, pr and so on. To fit in - dress on trend...or not - it doesn't really matter as patrons (locals and tourists) are all warmly welcomed here.
