Owner description: The Broadway Theatre is one of only five playhouses that front on the street named Broadway. It opened in 1924 as B. S. Moss's Colony, a premiere film house. The most notable film that played there in the early years was Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie which opened in 1928, and introduced American audiences to an adorable rodent named Mickey Mouse. The theatre went "legit" from 1930 to 1934, when it was re-christened the Broadway. From 1934 to 1940, the house was once again dedicated to motion picture exhibition, and offered the premiere of Disney's Fantasia in 1939. In 1940, however, it returned to legitimate stage production and, except for a brief stint as a Cinerama movie theatre in the 1950s, has remained in the business of showcasing live theatre ever since. B. S. Moss commissioned architect Eugene DeRosa to design the Colony as part of his chain of movie theatres, many of which also housed vaudeville. The large size of the theatre made it ideal for musical comedies.

I went to see Naked Boys Singing with my husband for his birthday. We loved seeing these handsome guys show their talent. The singing was quite good and the performers gave it their all. It was a very enjoyable evening.

“Dead Accounts is very much alive”

The acting was great. Buying the tickets through TDF made the price quite a value. The best part, the ladies rooom did not have that long long line that is so frequently found at Broadway shows during intermission.

“Excellent Theater ALWAYS!”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

I LOVE going to the theater and Broadway area has every show imaginable all the time! I love that! The quality of the acting, singing & dancing truly is the best and all the theaters I've been in have some kind of great grandeur about them. BUT every theater I've been in always has seats tightly packed in so there's never any room. Despite that, you are only sitting in the seats for a couple of hours and once the show starts you are having a great time & forget about your cramped space. Prices are very expensive but they offer plenty of times of the year to get a good deal. For example, right now it's Kid's Night on Broadway where you get great discounts. Plenty of online sites offer discount coupons too to minimize the cost. A must do activity in NYC.
