I like the Hyatt brand but their offerings in NYC have usually been either horrid (Grand Hyatt) or very expensive if very nice (Andaz) but given no availability for my usual hotel I decided this time to stay in the Hyatt and I am glad I did.
Of all the hotels in NYC this is the best in anywhere but battery park. It is a little boutique like but it has everything you need including very good tv (lots of channels most of which are HD). The minibar is very good the bathroom has a very nice walk in shower (no tub but for a business hotel that is never an issue and given the shower is dedicated and huge most people should be very happy).
The room is small in common with many NY rooms but the organisation is awesome. The room manages to have even a small kitchen type area with a dishwasher and sink. The bed is super comfortable and all the fixtures are purpose added and very nice with cute reading lights and a lot of nice touches. The room also has an IPOD player in addition to the TV.
In this super cold January it was good to have a very nice heating system in the room with very responsive temp controls and little noise but still with the ability to open the window a little to allow air in.
In Tokyo or even Shanghai or Beijing the room would not be considered special at all but in NYC it is truly superb.
The gym (s) and the lounge are both lovely and that tops off a very nice building. However please don't expect a huge lobby etc this is more like a serviced apartment in that respect but is totally a hotel in all others. I personally prefer things this way.
But the best thing is that the pricing is reasonable. This hotel massively outperforms the Grand Hyatt in every respect and is also around 60% of the price of that hotel
Overall I loved it and this will become a fast favourite for me I am sure. Finally there is a Hyatt in NYC worthy of the brand.
