“Still working out the bugs”
Reviewed October 11, 2011

This is a new boutique hotel in a good location, but still working out the bugs. The AC didn't work the first night and the first morning, I had just soaped up and the water went cold; so my initial reaction was not favorable. Reported the issues to the desk as I left in the morning and when I came back that evening asked if everything had been resolved and told it had been. Went up to the room and the AC was still not working. They ended up moving me to suite, so the rest of my time there was nice.

Now little things that drive me crazy, the decision to have showers and no tubs is not for everyone. If they are going to do this a bench would be nice. After walking all day, I really wanted to take a nice relaxing bath, but that wasn't an option. At least sitting down on a bench in the shower would have helped. And forget trying to shave your legs in a shower like that :-)

Also, initially got put in a handicap room. The shower doesn't have a shower curtain and there is no bathroom counter space. Have no idea why they would put someone in a handicap room when they had other rooms available.

Hello Cindy S,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with our fellow Trip Advisor visitors. We are delighted that the Hyatt 48Lex was your place to stay in the Big Apple but dissppointed we were not able to get a fantastic review from you at this time.

I truly apologize that as a valued customer you had the hiccup of dealing with an HVAC unit that was not operable but I am happy that were were able to upgrade your room and get you into something that was much more pleasant. While mechanical failures do happen its not one that we want our customers to experience and for this I truly apologize.

Thank you again for the feedback and for giving an insight and the sneak peak into the Hyatt 48 Lex. Should you travels plans bring you back to our hotel we would love to ensure a more pleasurable start to finish experience.

Sincerely,

Paul Ridguard

Pricey, but still an excellent hotel in the midtown area and only only 3 blocks from the subway station. We had the basic queen suite, wished it was abit bigger (kitchen area abit disappointing for a suite but not like we were planning to use it at all) but still quite large compare to normal NY rooms.

As usual Hyatt provided great customer service with their front desk, concierge and nightly turndown service. We had quite some trouble with our shuttle service (1hr late!) but since it was booked by the concierge, they were with us the entire time constantly calling the shuttle to make sure we get picked up in time for our flight!

Hello Iammonki,

Thank you so much for making the Hyatt 48 Lex your destination on your last trip into the Big Apple. We are so happy that you went a step further to share your feedback with us and while we enjoy reading that our staff was able to allow you to feel special and welcome, it's always dissapointing to read when expectations are not met and for this I apologize. I believe on the specific day you shuttle was late there was the October Fest which allowed the city to close off several streets ultimately delaying the shuttle but I am happy to have read that our concierge was able to stay with you throughout the time.

Thank you again for tips to our fellow trip advisor readers and we look forward to welcoming you again where we will be able to create a more enjoyable and memorable getaway.

Stayed 4 nights at this property. First of all, this property has great staff. From check-in to check out...We arrived very late. Our room was much smaller than I thought. (It's the terrace room, really cool but max. 2 persons) Check-in staff arranged different room (with price difference but he did not choose the easy option of saying 'good luck', he really wanted to know if we were satisfied) Despite the confirmation that there will be a rollaway in the room, first two nights they couldn't find a roll away bed. Housekeeping fixed a wonderful floor bed. My daughter was happy. Third night there was some confusion between front desk and housekeeping about the rollaway bed. At the end we got it. Again, a very nice front desk person brought some fruits as an apology for confusion. Nice move. Makes you feel better. We stayed in corner suite with nice views of Lexington and 48. It's really nice hotel, nicer than Grand Hyatt. However, it's not Andaz. The night we stayed, the price difference was not so big compare to Andaz 5th Ave. At 48 Lex, ceilings are lower, the bathroom is smaller compare to Andaz.

Service was helpful and friendly, room was modern, clean and comfortable, room was quiet - liked the fact that there was not much to the hotel, minimal check in, no restaurant (just an affiliated establishment), liked the lounge on the 2nd floor - just what you need in New York

Room Tip: we were on the 17th floor facing 48th Ave

Stayed recently on the 22nd floor and was awakened in the middle of the night by a piercing sound eminating from the wall. We were forced to change rooms. Everyone in the hotel was aware of the problem, so I am not sure why we even put on that floor. The second room on the 20th floor seemed to have thin walls, as we could hear a loud conversation next door. The rooms vary quite a bit in size, and the design is modern ( like every other new hotel). There is a mini bar stocked with local foods, no M+M's or Diet Pepsi. They also have several half bottles of wine in each room, but they are all at room temperature. The rooms also have microwaves and liitle dishwashers.

Hello Unclemike1776,

Thank you for staying with us; however, it is disappointing to learn your time was not more relaxing and that we did not live up to your expectations.

Our guest room minibars are stocked with all local NYC products, a unique selling feature for the hotel but its feedback like this that allows us to look at the intimate needs of our customers and ensure we create a comfortable environment where you can have whatever you want.

I can assure you that we strive for the best with our room accommodations, service and the quality of the guest experience and had we known that there would have been a problem that would have gotten you up while sleeping, it would have been addressed. I believe the noise you made reference to was a result of the air duct in the vents being blocked which have subsequently been addressed by the construction team and tested and the problem eliminated.

I am sorry you were affected by this; please reach out to me at you’re earliest convenience so we can discuss your experience further.

Sincerely,

great midtown location, restaurant and food available (and 100 restaurants outside your door), and it's a brand spanking new property. Small hotel but great if you're not looking for a fancy nyc experience. Rooms all have a decent view, king rooms are a tad small but better than the W. If you stay before Oct 2011 expect some hiccups as you would with any new property. Very hopeful this will be a great success.
