Owner description: From its inception, Macy's Herald Square was a store unlike any other. Over the past 150 years, it has become a true New York City icon. Built in 1902, Macy's Herald Square was the first building to have the modern-day escalator, and it has continued to be a trendsetter. Today, "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of the latest fashions for you and your home. Macy's offers a full-service Visitor Center on the Mezzanine Level, plus restaurants throughout the store and exciting events almost every day.

although Macy's was going through a renovation , it was still worth going to . there is a seating area outside the main area ( where the thanksgiving parade stops and performers ,perform) the store has many floors and an old wooden escalator . each floor is clearly marked with what it offered. remember , the store is always very crowded

“As a newyorker!”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Being at Macy's was fantastic, you can find everything you need (or not) and you can visit 8 floors of full shopping mania! Once entered you can retire your tax free card as a foreign so you can have a little discount on everyjthing. I was there in October and I just can guess how is on Christmas time:)

“10 floors of pretty much everything”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

You can find almost everything you need (and don't need) here, including Christmas decorations in summer. Don't forget to look at famous escalators made of wood - very interesting.

“great shoe shopping”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

My mom and I went into Macy's on Sunday afternoon and it was full of tourist. Even though it was busy we got exceptional customer service in the shoe dept from a Mr. floyd.
He really helped us and took the time bring out a few different styles and sizes.
Would like to mention that washroom were a problem. I don't know why the womens was close to the front while the mens was way in the back making it hatd to locate.
Overall though its a must for shoppers.
