Owner description: From its inception, Macy's Herald Square was a store unlike any other. Over the past 150 years, it has become a true New York City icon. Built in 1902, Macy's Herald Square was the first building to have the modern-day escalator, and it has continued to be a trendsetter. Today, "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of the latest fashions for you and your home. Macy's offers a full-service Visitor Center on the Mezzanine Level, plus restaurants throughout the store and exciting events almost every day.

“Vary average and rather worn out”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

On our first visit to NYC, so keen we were go to Macys we took a cab and arrived before opening time. This time we took a leisurely walk even having a little snack outside at Herald Square before entering the store whilst it was being refurbished.

As always we headed to get our foreign visitors discount card before we had look for any bargains. We always usually find a bargain or two at Macys although this time we found nothing special although we still purchased mainly for the kids.

Although the store is having some work done, it did look rather worn and nothing gave out the special vibe which this branch of Macy's should. Its still weird to see a branch of McDonalds in the store but this time it was more average.

“Big and easy to get lost”
Reviewed January 9, 2013

Visited Macy's one morning to do a bit of shopping, firstly grabbed my discount coupon which came in quite handy before I hit the racks.

The store is huge and very difficult to navigate, they really should have more signage so their customers don't get lost although I think they wan't that so they stay in the store for longer and increases the liklihood of more purchases.

The elevators are always crammed so a bit uncomfortable.

Managed to pick up a nice CK shirt for about $10 which was a real bargain and a few other pieces that were reasonably priced.

If though it is a huge store it is really in need of some TLC and some modernising. Its a bit scruffy

“A rather average department store”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

I had great expactations from the world's largest department store and very much looked forward to my visit. Sadly it was a rather tired looking and very average department sore on a large scale. If you must visit a department sore in New York, go to Bloomingdales instead for an experience similar to when Selfridges first opened its doors in London: glitz, glamour, fabulous window displays and fabulous merchandise in awsome surroundings.

“Huge and Good Value”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Visited in July 2012 and although it was very busy there was plenty of good value to be found. There is 7 floors worth of shopping and my wife found plenty of great bargains on more than one level. If you have a few spare hours and are in the midtown area Macy's is a great place to visit.
