Owner description: Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York, you live it! Streetwise New York explores neighborhoods, recounts history and studies contrast--but does so knowing that New York’s essence isn’t listed in guidebooks or displayed in museums. The true New York is melted into slices of pizza, hidden in subways, and carried in the ever-changing stories of its 8.5 million people.

Andrew did a great job of customizing a tour of Queens for our family. We didn't really know what to ask to see/experience, but after a few emails and well posed questions, he had a good sense for what type of tour we would like and some significant stops along the way.

Our boys, ages 11 and 14, enjoyed the tour as much as we did and have already, in casual conversation, referenced things they learned and saw along the way.

We covered a lot of ground during our tour but it wasn't exhausting, as we combined forms of transportation (including foot, bus, subway).

We got to experience Queens like a local - visiting a few restaurants to taste ethnic cuisine - that we never would have found or known about on our own. Tibetan dumplings and Indian sweets, Uraguayian bakery items. We ended our tour in a Greek part of Queens where Andrew gave us a great recommendation for dinner. We were the only ones not speaking Greek in the restaurant. Now that's awesome!

Would absolutely recommend Andrew and this tour company. We will definitely book again when in NYC!

I've taken walking tours in cities around the world and enjoy them. This one was special because the young man running it, Andrew, was doing his PhD in urban studies in NYC and so had an incredible depth of knowledge about the parts of the city that we explored. And he wore his learning lightly: there was much good humour and fun. And he bought us treats. What more could you want?

I went on a tour with Andrew on february and he was fantastic. While some tours tend to be boring or long with a lot of unnecesary information, Andrew was fun and precise which made the tour very enjoyable!
If you go to New York I absolutely recommend him!

I took the Street Art/China Town tour with Streetwise, organized through POD 51. Our guide Andrew was well organised, funny & enthusiastic, which was unexpected given that it was mid-winter. He really lived up to their name, pointing out art pieces, and giving background on the work and the artists, as well as the general history of the area - so I come away feeling a lot more 'Streetwise'. A great experience!

Recommended to us by POD 51, we went on the free Friday tour of Greenwich Village, the Meatpacking District, The High Line, and Chelsea Market. Dan, our awesome and patient guide (to our many questions), lead us on a informative & fun trip through an area of New York many never have the chance to experience. The city is not just about the 9-11 Memorial, Liberty Island, and the Empire State building -- the hands-on, 'boots on the ground' tour is something even the most-seasoned New York visitor should do. Dan lead us through the subway system, stopping at the 14th street station briefly to show us some cool local art, then onto the more: We visited a world music instrument artisan in Greenwich Village, Jimi Hendrix's first night club, as well as Magnolia Bakery. We strolled the High Line, while Dan pointed out local landmarks, and finished up at the Chelsea Market, an awesome place to spend the rest of the afternoon. Thanks, Streetwise!

Thanks so much for coming on the tour. I"m glad you had such a great time. I had a lot of fun showing you around and even learned some new things from Jeff at the Music Inn due to our conversation there. To give credit where credit is due, I want to thank the Pod Hotel for paying for this tour that is complimentary to their guests. Definitely a wonderful hotel to spend time in when visiting NY.
