We stayed for six days in Feb 14. The hotel is lovely with an impressive lobby and reception. Take time to look at the flower displays. They are amazing. We had a good sized room on the 16th floor. The hotel is spotlessly clean. The beds are extremely comfortable. The location is excellent, close to Times Square and Fifth Avenue. The concierge was helpful and advised us on shows and also a helicopter trip. The doorman was also a good source of information from good places to eat, etc. We didn't eat at Gaby's but someone we spoke to said it was very good. As someone else has said, the in room drinks are expensive so just be aware. I missed not having a coffee maker in the room but you can pick up a complimentary one to go in the lounge area of Gaby's which was great. My absolute tip, although it is a holiday, is get up early every day and cram as much into your day as you can.

Room Tip: Depends whats important to you. If a view is important, the higher the better.

I stayed at the Sofitel, New York this past weekend for our annual NYC Girl's Trip.

The lobby of the hotel was very nice, with several cozy sitting areas. Check-in was perfect... no waiting and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The room was nice, with a big, clean bathroom (the shower was basically awesome)! The beds were good, except for there was no top sheet... only a comforter with a duvet cover on it. I cannot sleep with a down comforter, whereas it's too hot for me. I slept very badly that night and should have called down for another type of blanket before I even settled down for the night. The 2nd night, I had asked housekeeping for a regular flat sheet and blanket and I slept much better without that hot comforter on me.

We ordered room service twice. It was very expensive, but wonderful... almost worth the price! It came quickly and each time, we were brought a basket of French pastries.... which were yum! All the food was top notch! We had drinks and snacks twice in the bar and it was like room service - expensive, but very good. The bartender customized a drink, just for me! Such good service...

The location was very convenient - I would say we were able to walk and take cabs about an equal amount. And thanks to the Concierge, who suggested two wonderful restaurants for us - a Greek place, just a few doors down called Kellari's and a Tapas place called Boqueria.

My only valid complaint is that there was some initial problem with the type of room we had booked. We had to ask three times for rooms with two twin beds, rather than a king or full. They then up-charged us for this, which I felt was unnecessary. However, I would still definitely stay here again!

I booked our holiday in May 2013 for 6 days and contacted the hotel in January 2014 to ask for a complimentary upgrade (It was my husband's birthday too). I didn't get any reply so was pleasantly surprised that I was given a room on the 17th floor. Despite this, the room was quite ordinary but very comfortable, the bed extremely so, especially after a long day pounding the NYC streets. The staff were polite and the rooms were cleaned every day. The turn down service was an extra that really wasn't needed but it was nice to hear some pleasant music playing when we got back. Bring food back with you, this seems to be the norm, the lobby was full of guests (I think) eating takeaway's. Do not take anything from the mini bar - extortionate prices. We did not eat in the hotel at all as there were local eateries that were reasonably priced and the staff there more than helpful. The hotel is centrally placed to all the sights, Times Square, Central Park, Theatre District and 5th Avenue, all within 10 to 15 minutes away. Both me and my husband found the city very friendly and safe, subway especially so and locals helpful when you got stuck. We especially liked the following local bars - Deacon Brodies (Scottish bar Hells Kitchen area - Andy is the owner and really friendly), The Cock and Bull English Bar (out the back door of the hotel and turn right) and Jimmy's (American bar on 5th Avenue). Sardi's lived up to its reputation and if you see a show, 'Rock of ages' is a good laugh. As I mentioned, we were in NYC for 6 days and by the end, we were quite happy to get home. I would visit again but would probably try another hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a higher level room.

On y retournera.

At the bar they are making good cocktails, and very well to start the evening.
Hey then, the hotel is very well located on 44W between 5 and 6.
We have been able to make maximum beautiful walks.
We will return

Three suggestions:
(1) Prepaid hotel reservations that are more than follow-on promotions should be credited.
(2) Room service was slow and delivered the wrong order.
(3) TV/clicker often did not work.

My wife and I have been to NYC many many times and had decided to try a new hotel. The past few times we have stayed in Soho but decided to stay back in mid town this time. The location of the hotel was great, near 5th ave, not right in time square and a close walk to the theatres. The rooms were clean but I would say and little dated. We had an executive suite which consisted of a small living room and separate bedroom. The staff were all very friendly, the bar was quite nice but not sure if we would stay there again for the value.

Room Tip: I would suggest a higher floor, maybe facing 44th street.
