A haven to return to after long very cold days sightseeing. The staff were very welcoming and polite, especially on reception. We asked for a coffee/tea maker in the room and they delivered. Our suite was a good size and included a beautiful bathroom with equally beautiful toiletries from Hermes. The bed and linen - WOW.
Seemed to be very much a business hotel, but that was not a problem, infact it was a blessing. We loved Sofitel - New York and would certainly stay again.

Having enjoyed another Sofitel property this year and after extensively searching for a perfect family hotel in NYC I was pretty pleased with this choice. This is our third family visit to NYC and each time I like to choose a different area in which to explore since the city has so much to offer and one can never "do it all". So the Theatre district was our choice however I was looking for a position that did not feel too touristy. First impressions were good and the accomodations for a family of 5 were spacious and elegant. We booked under the Magnifique Family Rate where you receive a discount of 50 percent on the second room plus breakfast comped for the kids, so in a city known for small rooms and expensive rates its a pretty good deal. Check in was seemless, even with loads and loads of baggage ready to be stored for our upcoming ski vacation but of course in the USA keep plenty of small dollar denominations for endless tipping. As an Australian I can never really understand the system of who to tip, the guy who unloads the baggage from the car, the bellman loading the trolley and if you're lucky he's the same guy to bring it up to the room.

The location was great, a block away from Times Square and close to Bryant Park and the beautiful NY Public Library. We wandered down to Flatiron and up to the good department stores so all of that was easily manageable from this location, plus had tickets to a Knicks game at Madison Square Gardens which was reasonably close by too. We visited just before Christmas (yes this review is a little late) and we loved the skating at Bryant Park and the little market area set around the rink.

I also have to comment on the excellent breakfasts, a wonderful selection of extremely large plates and the kids loved the daily juices and smoothies.

If we didn't have the plan of changing locations in the city each stay then I would definitely return to the Sofitel but next time we will look for something further down towards the Village or Soho. Any suggestions?

An easy review! Rooms are wonderful - cosy, spotless and very nice decor! Staff very friendly, particularly the doormen. Great location - out of the crazy crowds of Times Square, but close to it, and quick access to 5th Avenue for shopping. For breakfast, try the Red Flame diner right next door (a typical diner with good standard breakfast, fast service and very clean) and Saju Bistro just down the street towards Times Square. Would easily come here again.

Room Tip: We were on19th floor....did not hear anything!

We just spent 4 perfect days and nights in New York City at Sofitel. Sofitel is a wonderful hotel with a quiet elegant ambiance inside. As soon as you enter the lobby, you feel like you left the frenetic craziness of NYC outside. The staff are well trained, and are there to help you with anything that you want or need. The rooms are decorated nicely. We stayed in a suite which was appointed with two flat screen televisions and a large sitting room. The restaurant Gaby's in the lobby is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We dined there and had wonderful well prepared food at each of the meals that we had. Make sure to have the onion soup, best soup this side of the Atlantic!

The room was spacious compared to other New York hotels ! and the room service was good ! It's a bit pricey, but it was worth it ! i'll definitely come back to this hotel !

This is great, great hotel - and you can sense the pride all of the staff have in their work from the minute you walk into the lobby - but the thing that always gets me in the Apple is the amount of tipping you have to do - totally unacceptable. This is of course not unique nor is it directed at the Sofitel, but it grates. A lot!

I used to stay a great deal at The Hiltons (Avenue of Americas and Times Square - and that other Hilton brand the Waldorf) and even the Four Seasons - and in my humble opinion this property sinks them all. Totally. Is it the French flair? Or perhaps its super position in Mid Town? Maybe it's Rene on the Concierge desk? It's actually a combo of all of these. And more.

My last stay was in a Junior Suite - and for some reason I got upgraded to the those juniors on the higher floors. The view over the Big Apple is indeed stunning, but with over 600 square feet of space, a bed that cossets, upscale and well maintained furniture - this room was not only picture perfect, but was great value (for Manhattan).

Dinner in Gaby is a colourful experience - the decor is VERY Broadway(!) and the food for a hotel, pretty good.

How to sum up the Sofitel NYC? Very good. It did however lack, for me anyway, the immediate spark, the intimacy and uniqueness of its sister property eastward over the Big Pond in London. That said, Jorge Tito and his team can hold their heads high - Sofitel New York is the best on Manhattan - and will be my choice next time (March '13) when I'm back in the city that never sleeps!

Room Tip: If you can, get a room on the upper floors where the views are stunning.
