“Stay at the Conrad New York”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2013

Highly luxurious stay in a spacious suite with extremely high service standards. Excellent food in the restaurant and room service, with a very engaging public art piece for a lobby. The extreme downtown location won't suit everyone, but if you want to be close to the twin towers site and battery park it is ideal. Its a bit of a walk to Chambers Street subway but taxis using West street can get a party of three uptown for $25 or so in quick time I would recommend this hotel very much.

Hotel closes down at around 10:00--outside noise comes into rooms. Might as well sleep on the street. Staff says what ever to get rid of you but does not tell you the truth. Beware of street closures in New York. This hotel has no back up plan.

Ausschnitt aus unserem nachträglichen Mail an das Hotel:

...it is unacceptable that you tolerate door men who work together with “taxi friends” and probably get a commission from them. When we ordered a taxi, your door man advised us to take the black SUV (ordered by him) instead of the yellow cab which is regulated by the city administration and probably cheaper. We got fooled on our way TO manhattan and nearly got fooled again on our way to the airport – thanks to your doorman. From our point of view you should reconsider this and offer the savest and least priciest service to your guests.

Furthermore we were very surprised about the fact that the promised “included continental breakfast” was no buffet with a wide range of products but ONE choice out of 5 dishes and ONE cup of coffee. Are you sure that you want to make your guests leave the hotel hungry and with a lack of choices? We never experienced a luxury hotel, where you had to pay to get a choice and full in the morning...

Stayed here during our honeymoon to US and had some expectations, since we also visited the Conrad Miami which was fantastic.

The hotel itself has a good location, nice decor, design, large and high quality rooms. Everything that makes a very great hotel. There is also a nice roof toop bar and around the corner there is a ShakeShack.

This hotel, however, is lacking in all that signs for friendlyness, service, experience or employees taking care of you by their genuin caring attitude. This starts that we arrive by the isolated entrance, one doorman who not greet us or even looks at us, offered help with bags, to the staff members hanging around in front desk with no interest of you, the concierge who told us that one large tourist attraction was open (around the corner of the hotel) but in matter of fact has been closed for 2 years after my own research at internet, to the bellboys not greeting you with a smile or even a look, chatting about girls or the totally ignorant, rude and lacking staff by the breakfast. No good morning, had us waiting (no other guests around), direct us with the whole hand and no sound, or place your juice glasses on your books instead on the table. These was not single incidents, this was the way of their culture and first my wife and myself thought it was us they hated (stayed at points and got a complimentary breakfast dish) but everyone was treated the same way. Mayby I'm strange but I'm just used to a good morning, thank you or just basic service like if there is a fork missing, I don't need to collect it by myself (however, after me searching around for a fork, polite enough not to take it from the preparred tables, the staff simply took one from the table where a guy having his breakfast).

I have never ever experience such a lack of service at any hotel anywhere that claims to be a upscale place.

I had addressed my unsatisfaction to management and I hope they will do something to change, because it is a very very nice hotel.

This is my third time to stay at this facility. A previous Embassy Suites - it is a wonderful, friendly, clean hotel. Staff is excellent, rooms are quiet, spacious and clean. Short walking distance to World Trade Center Memorial, views of the Hudson and this time we were graced to have been there for the "Tunnel to Tower" 5 K. Awesome!

Room Tip: Ask for a River View.

My husband arranged for date night in NYC in August. We had a king size room and it's amazing what they did with the former Embassy Suites. The atrium is definitely impressive. Within the room, there was a walk in shower the size of a room and the rain shower head and body sprays were incredible. I didn't want to walk out of the shower. The shower had a glass door which I would be afraid of breaking in my own house but for a hotel, it was really cool. The room had a Nespresso machine which is better than most hotel room coffee machines. The location is very convenient to the Path train and to the subway.

The entrance and atrium were very modern, i'd go as far as space age, with blue lighting and lots of white. It made for a very cool effect, however I was happy to see the room was a little more comfortable then contemporary. Except for the bathroom, which did not have a "real" door it had a swing door which does not give much privacy.
