If being at the southernmost part of Manhattan will work for you - easy access to SoHo, Tribeca, Battery Park - then this is a great option! This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very large by any standard. (Whoever says this is an Embassy Suites is nuts.) The location is fun - right across from the Irish Hunger Memorial, on the water, near the ferry to Brooklyn, a Whole Foods around the corner. Fresh, new, clean, huge shower, great beds, cool lighting. I LOVED IT! My biggest peeve in NY is a tiny hotel room. This is anything but.

Ok - the drawback - it's far from midtown or the park, museums, etc. Either make it a 30 minute adventure - walk to and ride on subway - or pay $20 for a cab. If a comfortable hotel room means a lot to you, head to the Conrad. And all of the people I encountered - front desk, doormen, housekeepers - were very very pleasant. All in all a great stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

My husband and I took our 16 yr old daughter and 5 of her friends to nyc to see show 12/23/12. Reserved 2 rooms thru Travelzoo at the Conrad...never been there, but reviews seemed ok. We were all pleasantly surprised! The location is awesome, right on Hudson, very litte traffice/noise and the rooms were huge by nyc standards. Very modern, clean, courteous staff..girls loved the walk in shower and "touch control" blinds/curtains!! Close commute to Broadway shows, time square, etc...fabulous weekend!! Girls want to stay at the Conrad for next trip.....

Room Tip: Rooms with double beds all on city side...rooms w/kings are facing the Hudson....fantastic view!!!!

If you don't mind not being in Midtown, and I certainly prefer not being in the midst of everything but have some peace and quiet, this is the place for you. All rooms are suites with and ample bedroom with flatscreen TV and all necessary amenities, as well as a living room with flatscreen TV and a nicely stocked bar with coffee maker and sink etc. Nicely decorated and well appointed. The shower is huge and separate from the rest of the bathroom by a wall. Beds super comfortable and linens clean white. Attention at front desk is forthcoming. Bar is great and the bartenders friendly. just outside the Hotel you have 2 excellent restaurants, a BBQ house and a regular very good restaurant as well as a Bagel shop for an excellent and hearty breakfast. The Hotel itself also has dinning facilities but we encountered them rather expensive for what it was. And being in the heart of the financial district getting taxis is easy, and in less than 20 minutes you're in the heart of midtown. You can naturally also take the NYC Subway system for cheaper travels up and down Manhattan.

This hotel was "easy in and easy out". I had a late check-in with no problems. The suite is well-equipped and larger than most NY studios. The walk-in shower was a great design touch. The mini bar is well-equipped, and when i asked for a corkscrew, it arrived within 5 or so minutes. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were crisp and comfortable (and smelled freshly-laundered). Touch-pads for suite lighting should be standard for hotels, especially those that are frequented by weary business travelers. Room service breakfast was the norm. Fresh fruit and coffee. It arrived quickly and was fresh. I was there for less than 24 hours, so i didn't have the chance to use the hotel's facilities. If you're working downtown, this hotel is perfect.

Room Tip: All rooms are suites.

This is a great, luxury and modern hotel. Clean spacious room with all amenities.
The lobby is fantastic, with a huge painting in blue and lots of sofas.
The staff is very helpful and nice.
Good position too.

The place might be all remodeled inside and sport pretty colors but whoever runs this hotel needs a crash course in customer service and design. "Couple" problems we should not have encountered in a property like this:

- insufficient staff at front desk and restaurants. 45 min wait for breakfast is simply not acceptable in a place of this type. Lines at counters.
- elevator lights confusing
- they never brought sheets up for the kids' foldout bed. We called 3 times. Finally gave up. They never brought them up.
- shower leaking water all over the room floor.
- every piece of equipment and furniture seems to have been designed to make life hard or miserable on the guest. Doors hard to grab/open, things don't fit, impractical design. This includes the main bar which has an entire section not accessible to the bartenders!!

It's as if someone had purposely designed the worse possible hotel known to man for some twisted ergonomy experiment. Lack of attention to detail everywhere.

Combine this with mediocre and lacking service (understaffed place) and you have the perfect storm in high-end mediocrity. I hope this is not indicative of the whole Hilton brand -- clearly they couldn't care less about guest in this property. I'm so happy to be a HHilton member (not!).

Room Tip: That's easy! Pick one in another hotel :)

We recently stayed at the Conrad for 6 nights over the Christmas holiday. The location is in the Financial District so the area is relatively sterile compared to most other neighborhoods. However, the hotel is located near a mall for casual dining and shopping. One nice plus is that there is a movie theatre connected to the property so that was a nice diversion. The common areas and rooms have been updated and they are modern, clean and trendy. The gym is adequate, but could use more weight equipment.

Our biggest qualm was the service (aside from housekeeping and the doormen). The service overall was appalling for a hotel of this purported quality. Many times our calls to the main operator, the front desk or the concierge went unanswered or the ring tone would suddenly stop as if the person on the other end simply didn't want to take the call and hung up. Our constant calling and continued long hold times or hang-ups became very frustrating. On another night, we called the general guest relations number 4 times to request a bucket of ice and each time we spoke to Denise, but despite all of our calls we never received the ice. We complained about these issues with the phone to a manager on a few occasions, but the service didn't ever really improve during our stay. Another issue we had was with the inflexibility and discourtesy of the dining room staff. Upon check-in we received several breakfast credits that we needed to use by 11:30 AM in the dining room. We weren't able to make it to breakfast on time, so around 11:45 AM on 2 mornings we asked if they would allow us to redeem the vouchers for a glass of milk and a banana (far short of the value of the vouchers) and the staff flatly refused our request pointing out the times on the vouchers. I could understand deadlines, but their unwillingness to accommodate us demonstrates a total lack of friendliness or goodwill. On one occasion at midnight as we were returning to the hotel, an elderly couple had arrived and there was no valet to help them. So this elderly couple had to find a luggage trolley themselves and struggle with their 5 bags to the elevators (we did help them once we realized what was happening).

I'm not sure if the hotel was understaffed during our stay or if they just are not used to catering to non-business travelers. Management should take these issues to heart and retrain the staff on the basics of customer service and hospitality so that guests can have a satisfying stay.
