This was a great place to stay...the location was great, very trendy style and clean. Actually loved it but had a few issues that prevented me from giving it a 5 at this time....

Ok, there were no hand towels in my room and unfortunately did not realize until.was in the shower and needed it for the soft soap dispensers which I am.not a big fan of either. Give me a bar of soap any day.
Also, my shower head drizzled out the water which again did not find out until I was showering. If I was staying for two nights I would have told the front desk.

But if you like trendy and are visiting NYC this is a great place to stay. I will for sure give it another try

The pics are my view from 21st floor..

Hi Jim D,

We appreciate the overall 4 star review. We apologize about the hand towels and will look into why this happened to you. As far as our soaps, we are going to roll out a brand new amenity package beginning in January which we are excited about. We look forward to potentially having you back in the future.

Regards,
Joseph

We stayed @ Yotel for 5 nights during November 2017.

Few notes (good, average & bad):

1) Location

10-15 mins stroll to the center of Times Sq, and just around the corner from Port Authority Subway station.

Couldn't really ask for a better location without paying the bigger bucks (all in all the stay came to $1,232/£930 including room, tax and 'Experience Fee').

The neighborhood felt safe to walk around at any time of day or night, never saw any trouble and the streets were always busy with locals & tourists alike.

2) Rooms

Our Deluxe Queen Room was compact (describing it as a 'Cabin' is accurate).

There's minimal storage space so you're living out of a suitcase as opposed to hanging clothes up in a wardrobe.

The recline and raise bed was a good idea - due to the compact nature of the room - and the shower and washing facilities were ample with a nice hot shower.

In general : compact, clean and with a modern feel.

3) Experience Fee

When booking you are charged an 'Experience Fee', which is "USD 25 per night excluding tax. For that you receive a USD 20 Food and Beverage credit and 10 percent off Tours and Theater Tickets". You cannot roll this $20 over, so if you don't use your $20 on a single night, you essentially lose it.

This fee is essentially here to motivate you to spend money in the restaurant, bar & cafe, when otherwise you may not have bothered. However the credit is at that awkward level, where you can buy some drinks with it, but not a burger or pizza for 2 people. Meaning inevitably you will either not spend it (and lose it having paid for it), or spend too much and have to cover the difference when you check out for each instance/day.

I felt that the Experience Fee was a tax and a waste of money. We inevitably didn't spend our credit each day, and would rather have not had to pay for something we didn't really use or want to use. We saw it as a tax, and is a point which I feel detracts from the hotel experience. A better solution would have been to not bother entirely; or to allow you to roll the fee over, and essentially have one credit to use during your stay (however that would mean the hotel considering their guests and not their profit margins). At the end of the day you're paying the hotel for this 'experience'/food & drink - they are not giving it to you for free!

For the record the food & beverage was ok / average / nothing special. Hence probably why they try and force you to use it, as the quality and value for money doesn't speak for itself.

4) Baggage fee

They have a fancy automated machine in the lobby which allows you to store your bags on checkout day. Only thing is they charge - $8 in our case for 2x suitcases and 2x hand luggage. I don't know of many hotels who charge for this service, and is yet extra proof that the hotel is trying to eek more and more cash out of you.

What next.... charging you to use the elevators?

5) Service

Pretty much everything is automated, and you don't need to speak to anyone at the hotel if you don't want to. For example there is no check in desk - it's an automated machine. Not the traditional hotel experience, but then who cares.

Summary:

Even with the outrageous Experience Fee/ tax, the stay was relatively good value for what you got (location, facilities etc). If you like spacious rooms and somewhere which isn't just a place to lay your head, this probably isn't the place for you. If you like the traditional hotel experience of a check in desk and a person smiling and talking to you as you walk in, again this probably isn't the place for you. If you like a hotel which feels more like an apartment building with a bar and restaurant, then this is the place for you!

If we came back to New York we probably wouldn't stay here again. The Experience Fee left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth, and we weren't bowled over by the place. However it's safe, clean, central and modern and that pretty much ticked our boxes for this holiday!

Room Tip: Higher floors are better - we stayed on floor 23 which had a good view (couldn't see Times Sq but it was still good).

Very nice rooms with beautiful view and comfort bed. A shower with view is nice. The room is cleen and compact. The only bad thing about the room is the carpet. The best thing is the staff and one special one. Karina Guzman at the frontdesk is very friendly and serviceminded. She made us pick this hotel and it was worth it. Karina smiled and made us feel at home.

Room (21th floor- Queen view) not so small with clever coach to bed system. Around 10-15' from 42th street station - Port Authority. Some restaurants, fast-food or food trucks (chicken-rice, hot dog, etc) in the neighborhood. Automatic check-in at ground floor very quick and easy. Restaurants, bar and take away (and reception = mission control) at 4th floor.
Be careful, you have to know (because none tell us) that your already and mandatory paid experience fees have to be spent each day; no possibility to cumul it, so go to the great bar/terrace and enjoy or have breakfast at the take-away desk, if not you lose it ! (27$/2pax)
And keep your receipts to check them on final invoice - amounts sometimes are stranges (but not the time to ask mission control about it)
And for those who didn't know yet, in USA, I understood that you might let 3 - 5 $ each night in your room for room maid, this is their wage not a tip as in others countries for extraordinary services.
