This hotel is modern and designed to use the spaces in an efficient manner. Filtered water on each floor as well. Beautiful skyline views from the 4th floor terrace. This hotel is only a few blocks from the infamous Times Square. Close to subway station and nearby bus stops. Have stayed at the Yotel NY 4 times. It has become our "Go-To" hotel.

Room Tip: Bring a refillable bottle to use the filtered water stations.

We stayed for 7 nights in August.

When booking a couple of months before, the only deal on offer included what's called an experience fee. This cost $25 plus tax (ie $27.22) a night and includes $20 towards food and drink. You can in theory save this up across your stay ($140 in our case) and spend it on 3-4 breakfasts/ meals/ drinks, as we did. However,

- their billing system only works properly if you spend the $20 every day. They will fix this for you if you check out at mission control and they will make sure you get a credit for the days you didn't use it. If you check out automatically, I suspect you don't get the right credit and could be overcharged.

- as already mentioned the $20 fee is plus tax. You then spend it on food that attracts sales tax again - so in effect you are paying the tax twice for getting the meal once.

So avoid the experience fee deals if you can.

We paid extra for a view cabin. We emailed ahead of our stay to ask for a Manhattan view, not the Hudson river view. When we got to the room, we had a Hudson river view and it wasn't great in my opinion. So, we went back to mission control who readily changed our room to one looking towards Times Square from 25th floor. Relatives of ours checked in a couple of days later and by chance got a room on the 9th floor directly below us. Their view was just as good. So my opinion is don't pay extra for a view room.

The room itself is small and basic but reasonably well designed. We didn't like the bathroom/ toilet with no solid door though - just a sliding panel and curtain across.

The bed was very comfortable and the wifi was brilliant, amongst the best we've had anywhere. No passwords are needed and no need to sign up for their mailing list. The air conditioning worked really well too.

The location is very good. It's two blocks walk to the subway entrance on 8th and 42nd. From there, there are many subway lines to get across New York. It worked well for us, as we twice went to Flushing Meadow for the US Open tennis and it was a 45 minute journey on line 7. We stayed once before in New York on 5th and 41st which we felt was an even better location than the Yotel though.

On our last night we needed to be up at 4am to get to the airport. They were still noisily cleaning rooms on our corridor at about 11pm.

Breakfast was pretty good value for a hotel. There is a lively bar and an outside terrace on 4th floor which had a weekly outdoor cinema in the summer.

Mission control were always helpful and I discussed my issues about the experience fee with them a couple of times. Whilst staying, I emailed the hotel to get a comment from management. I had no reply.

Room Tip: Don't pay for a view room.

Hello rthomp!

Thank you for your review. As you mentioned on your review the experience fee includes a "daily $20 food and beverage credit at any of the outlets in the hotel". We are glad to hear you enjoyed our super comfy beds and great wifi connectivity.
Hope you can visit us in the future.

This hotel could have great potential, but it unfortunately shouldn't be rated as a 4-star. Even though the design was great, here are some things that need to be fixed:
- Rooftop terrace was half-closed on our first evening, for a private event
- "Room with a view": view of the ugliest building in NYC (Port Authority bus terminal)
- No coffee machine in the bedroom (even 2* hotels have some...)
- Cheap plastic cups instead of real glasses in the bedroom
- No mini-bar in the bedroom or room service
- Would recommend having bathrobes and other extras like other 4* hotels do

Hello Maramba_Montreal!

Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear that your stay with us was
not to your satisfaction. While we understand that our design concept is not for everyone, we are very straightforward about the size of our cabins and include total square footage, photos, and descriptions on our website.

Our queen premium cabin was really good, if you don't mind size. They may seem small but everything fits in them. Good Wi-Fi connection and speed. We spent 6 nights there and would repeat again. Although changing elevators to go to your room was awkward at the beginning, I prefer that for security reasons rather than for access to the other facilities. I recommend it.

We booked a superior queen with city view but they forgot our booking on arrival. They were lovely and gave us a free drink. They upgraded us to. King room , so it was bigger, bit no view, apart from a lounge are which we did not have access to, and when we were getting ready for bed there were a couple dancing and laughing at us. We so love this hotel, but felt very self conscious after this. Better not to get an updated perhaps.
