“Perfect base for exploring NY”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

The hotel is a unique place, it looks quite 'space age' with its purple and white minimalist decoration and walking out on upper floor to get the lift to the cabins felt like walking into a nightclub as you are met with more funky lighting and an equally funky sound system. The check-in and check-out machine on the first floor was easy to use and very time saving as you don't have to spend time queuing to speak to a receptionist on arrival.

Complimentary coffee/tea and muffins were available for breakfast every morning and we noticed on one evening that complimentary hot apple cider and cookies were also available which was a nice touch.

The hotel is in a great location (West 42nd Street/10th Avenue) as only a stones throw from Times Square/Grand Central Station, so a fantastic base for exploring just about anywhere in the city.

The hotel rooms are called cabins and are compact but very well designed to contain everything you would need for a short stay in a small space. The space is small but ideal for a couple/single person on a short trip only using the room as a place to return to and sleep at the end of the day.

The facilities in the room were good, it contained a flat screen TV, ipod charger, iron, ironing board, safe, hair dryer, and a decent shower.

The only areas of improvement for us were:
(1) the bed mattress which was hard and OK if you naturally sleep on your back but not overly comfy if like us you sleep on your side

(2) the bathroom and bedroom areas were separated by a curtain which didn't give 'real' privacy in the bathroom and also meant that any unpleasant bathroom odours seeped into the sleeping area which wasn't great. As the temperature was -4 during our stay, opening the window wasn't really an option to eliminate any odours. A simple solution would be to replace the curtain with a sliding door.

On each floor there is a galley containing a complimentary coffee machine, fridge, microwave and vending machine for soft drinks. This was a nice touch as it meant being able to get a hot chocolate before bed each night which was very welcome after long days sightseeing in the cold weather.

Overall, a great stay for a 6 night break and would highly recommend this hotel for couples/singles looking for a comfortable, clean hotel in a great location. It was pricey but that was more to do with the time of year we were staying (2nd week of December, so prime Xmas shopping time) as all NYC accommodation is expensive in December

Hi JP7573!

Thank you for your review! We are thrilled that you liked the design, cleanliness and location of the hotel! Our mattresses are hand-made of organic coconut husk and lambswool; not your typical mattress. Although we have many guests that enjoy them, others, similar to yourself, do not. However, we will have a solution soon! Please email me your contact information to reservations@yotelnewyork.com and I will be sure to keep you updated.

The hotel is a unique experience. It looks fancy, surreal and dazzling with its purple and creative decoration. The check-in and check-out machine on the first floor was easy to use so you don't have to talk to a receptionist when getting in. It is not far from Time Square. These are about all the good things I would say about YOTEL. The cabin, yes it's called cabin here not room, I had was very small despite the fancy design. I don't think a business traveler can work here as there was no desk in my cabin. The cabin is very compact which did not make me feel comfortable. There were so many people at the breakfast place that you could barely get any food. And there was not much food to begin with, even though I have to admit that I did not pay for breakfast. The location is a bit off Time Square on a side street, and I'm not sure a single girl would feel very comfortable and safe walking around at night.

Thank you so much for your review! We are so sorry that you were disappointed with the cabin size, as we try to be very upfront about this on our website in the listed square footage, photos and description, as well as in all interaction with Crew.

I liked it, overall. That's basically it, nothing superb, but alright. A bit pricey. Bed kind of retreats out of the way, so it becomes a sort of couch. Nice heated towel rack in bathroom (no privacy, BTW). Free coffee and muffins for breakfast. Check in and out is through an ATM like machine, but you can ask for help if needed. Location was kind of scary, for me anyway, especially at night. I had a drink at the bar, nothing special, and ate at the restaurant, sushi was not bad. I was only there one night, so maybe if I had given it more time, I would have liked the location a bit more.

Room Tip: I think they are all the same.

We were in NY for 5 nights and wanted a place that to sleep in that was central, and come back to after a big day wandering before going back out for dinner. After extensive searching online, most hotels were either very expensive or offered way more services/room than we needed.Plus we decided we wanted a hotel with concierge service, as opposed to an apartment, as we were new here.

A friend refered Yotel, which is already a win, which turned out to be cheaper than most other places we were considering, but a whole lot cleaner, newer and overall cooler. Plus they had free coffee and muffins in the morning, which is a great bonus.

Room Tip: The higher the better. We were on floor 11 which was only half way up but perfect, and had a view of...

we had a very comfortable stay, the room was cosy and clean with a very comfortable bed. all the staff were friendly and polite which made us feel welcome as soon as we arrived . we paid for breakfast which provided us with a good choice from the menu all was cooked to our liking . There's only a curtain between the shower/toilet and the bedroom so not a lot of privacy there .the hotel is close to time square . I would recommend this hotel for short stays .

Yotel has a very clean, chic feel to it with several amenities that go above and beyond. Our room with a queen was cozy. Many reasonably priced NYC hotels are small but Yotel was roomy enough to be cozy but not claustrophobic. There were a few small drawbacks but the pluses completely made up for those. The drawbacks: no conditioner, moisturizer or tissues when most places have them these days. The pluses: heated towel rack, a bed that moves in and out/up and down to accomodate whether you're reading in bed or sleeping, and the Galley...with a machine that provides hot cocoa, cappuccino, etc. to meet the cold winter nights we were having during our stay.

Breakfast consisted of free coffee and free Yotel muffins which were yummy. There was a paid breakfast but we were on the run so didn't try this out. We also didn't try the other meals or bar but just entering Yotel with the friendly staff made us happy to be "home". We've seen other reviewers complain about the bed. We have high standards but absolutely no complaints here. We wish the shower/bathroom had a but more privacy but, considering the weekend we visited and what other hotels were charging, we were happy to overlook.

Green Features: Yotel's environmentally friendly practices were above and beyond what most hotels practice these days!!

Hello Beth W!

We’re so happy that you enjoyed your stay and that we exceeded your expectations! Due to our dedication to sustainability our Get Up/ Get Down signature washes are offered in a pump, rather than a bar soap with a wrapper. Hopefully you liked the scent! They’ve been created with specific ingredients for the time of day. “Get Up” is infused with Sage and Eucalyptus. It’s amazing for those mornings when all you want to do is snooze.
We hope to see soon! If there’s anything we can ever be of assistance with, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at reservations@yotelnewyork.com.

We stayed here through a deal from an online booking site. We weren't sure exactly what we were in for, but it was perfect for us. The room is very small, but I understood that before we got there. And you shouldn't be spending too much time in your room anyway! There are also many common spaces if you need more space just go down to the lounge area, they have 8 or so private room spaces with TVs couch, etc. The muffins for breakfast were good, but that's all there is so be prepared if you want something more substantial. The galley on each floor was great. They provided free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and water, whenever you want. On a cold December weekend it was great! The Lavazza coffee maching also made a fantastic latte, and the hot chocolate was made with real milk.

The room itself is efficient, no space is wasted. Only a curtain seperates the bathroom from the bedroom, again just be prepared for this before you arrive. It was fine for me and my husband. The mattress is firm but comfortable. We had a room, or "cabin" on the 14th floor facing south. A great view! There was a bit of noise from the hallway now and then, but overall it was nice and quiet.

On our last day we used the Yobot in the lobby to store our luggage while we were out and about during the day. Very helpful to know your luggage is so secure! An excellent touch.
