On first impressions this place looks like it's from Sci-Fi movie. Neon lights against white stone and blue glass. It's pretty cool. The entrance foyer is a small area with elevators at the back, easy to use touch screen check in to the left and the robotic baggage concierge to the right. The guys here are friendly and will help you check in if your having problems. My problem here is that I didn't get the chance to find out if i'd have a problem. As soon as we stepped out of the Taxi and spoke we were clocked as being from the U.K. One concierge gave the nod to another who, although friendly and informative (I won't name him for this reason), ruined everything I enjoy about entering a Hotel for the first time. You don't get to take in the atmosphere or decor. Just a quick commentary on your way to your room, which meant we didn't get to use the Robotic concierge either. Entering the room and explaining it's features to us was a step too far, just leave the bags and go. Maybe you'll get a tip. There's nothing to explain aside from a button that converts the bed from upright to flat. And a T.V with a jack to connect your phone or MP3. For this reason, he didn't get a tip. The rooms were neat and compact. Funky lighting and well laid out. Suitcase compartments under the bed, plenty of shelving. Some hanging space, great shower and decent sized T.V. The bed was a nice feature but because it had to be flexible to convert meant it wasn't a very thick mattress. Thicker than a sofa bed, not as thick as a regular bed. We had a quite a good view too, for NYC. No coffee facilities as these are in the galley. A small room situated on each floor with free coffee, tea and water or ice. Soft drinks $2 each. The bars and restaraunts are on the 4th floor. An unavoidable floor as the lifts go from the Lobby to 4. Then another lift takes you further up to the rooms. Same thing on the way down which although only a minor inconvenience can get a bit annoyoing if you just want to get out. Waiting on lift is a pet hate of mine, waiting on two to get out of or into the same building during a busy time got to me a bit. The 4th floor was O.K. 2 wine bars, priced normally for NY. On 2 occasions we couldn't use the bars though. Friday night they had private party and the 2nd bar was the only one open to residents and public, not a problem. Sunday afternoon the Yotel hosts a Sunday brunch with a D.J and the place is rocking. A bit much for A Sunday but it would suit some. This party, although open to all, has a 100% Gay attendance. And during this time the 2nd bar wasn't open either. Not sure what they expected their guests to do during this time but it wasn't to come downstairs and relax. The breakfast coffee and muffins were O.K. Seems NY hotels don't include breakfast in their pricing so to have this free was another nice touch. You could have ordered a full breakfast too but we didn't eat at the hotel at all so I can't comment on this. The front desk (Mission Control) staff were friendly and helpful enough and the hotel concierge desk can get you a ticket and advise on times too almost anything for a small booking fee. The location itself is walking distance to Times Square. Approx 10-15 mins will get you there with lots of shops and Restaraunts on the way up 42nd St. The Port Authority bus station is there too with Penn stsation only a few blocks way and the 42nd ST Subway station meaning it's incredibly easy to get around. We flew into Newark and paid $90 in a Taxi to the Hotel. Returning to the Airport we used the Car Service at the hotel which cost $100 and was a lot better. Although my wife and I won't be returning to Yotel I will be recommending it to a friend of mine.
