“Nice corner room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

Cool, easy, bright, clean, free wifi, friendly and helpful staff, but a bit uncomfortable futons.
Free checkroom for luggage after checking out and airport service for about 90$ available.
Great location in the heart of Manhattan.

Room Tip: corner rooms with great view and more space

Hi just got back from a 7 night stay in yotel and thought it was fantastic. The location is spot on which means you can walk everywhere. The rooms are brilliant and really modern. The staff were friendly. I am due back in NY in Feb and I will definately stay there.

Room Tip: Make sure you stay on a sunday to enjoy the fantastic brunch.

I was hesitant to stay here because I thought it might be like a hostel.... But in fact it's very cool and trendy, clean and fun. Checking in at a kiosk is easy and makes sense, and the amenities are pretty good - breakfast was nice and the restaurant looked good though I didn't go.
The rooms are definitely small but very well designed - and let's face it most NYC rooms are small anyway! It's also really great value - the day I was here it was nearly 3 times cheaper than the nearest holiday inn express.
That said: the bed was pretty uncomfortable - the mattress is thin because it converts into a sofa. One night was ok but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer. Also there was an intermittent high squealing noise coming from my bathroom vent during the night which was very irritating - I was already in bed so didn't want to change rooms but it wasn't very pleasant to wake up to (this was room 2312).

I'd definitely come back again for a short trip, but make sure there's no squealing before settling in!

It is refreshing to see a new hotel embracing modern technology and design, that is priced competitively.

We stayed at the Yotel for 5 nights and found the location to be perfect for exploring the city, just a short walk to/from Penn station as well as Times Square.

Although the free wifi and coffee/water in the galley are great to make the stay convenient, for me the primary service a hotel can provide is a good nights sleep, unfortunately this is where the Yotel falls down.

The noise from the corridor especially was a big problem, because of the size of the room you are practically sleeping next to the entrance door which is in no way noise insulated, you can even see light around the door from the corridor. The weekend party go-ers returning back at 2,3,4,5am don't whisper or tip toe into their rooms.

This is a common problem of hotels but one hotel had the solution - provide an additional door between the entrance and bedroom, but given the design or the hotel this is unlike to happen.

The aircon system was also very noisy and was needed through the night, the vent pushing cold air directly onto the head of the bed.

We did not find the staff particularly smiley or ready to assist, even at the bar I was told happy hour had finished half way through the hour, nice! :-/ The coffee machine broke after a few days but was not repaired for the rest of our stay even after reporting it. The cleaners left a bottle of chemical detergent in the room - good job we didn't have kids! The next day the cleaner took our daily tip, folded the toilet paper, but didn't remove the detergent bottle or do any other cleaning.

The restaurant was charging premium prices for a "hurricane Sandy" buffet and weekend menus, we took our money elsewhere for the ambiance and quality of food.

If you were on business for one or two nights, I could see that this hotel would appeal, but as a couple on holiday it missed the mark.

I'd highly recommend the Yotel...European in flavor...bright, clean...great breakfast value. Great location, just a 10 minute walk to Times Square.
The gym while small had sufficient eqipment for a good workout.

Rooms are compact, but fine for a couple of days. Not sure that it was really "times square" but not too far off. Bathroom was a little disconcerting, with a calico (read see through) curtain across the shower area and a glass door that didn't close flush with the wall for the toilet. Nothing much was left the imagination of the other occupant of the room. All that aside the room was everything that was promised by the website.

Pity about the bar staff - they clearly want a certain type of customer, of which a couple in their 30's who don't want to get overly dressed up (jeans & t-shirts) to have a beer were not the type. Service was slow (not a busy time).

In summary, stay at the hotel, but find another bar, of which there are plenty around, to have a drink after a day of sightseeing.

This hotel is very cool. They get high marks for being different and very forward thinking. There is no check in desk on the first floor. This is fine if you are used to using kiosks at the airport, movie theaters, and the like. However this did seem to contribute to a back up of people trying to come and go from the hotel through the lobby. The luggage check robot is super cool and worth a picture. The actual lobby, or mission control as they call it, is the central gateway to everything: bar, restaurant, concierge, lounge, held packages. Great idea and seems to work well. It was overwhelmed with fashion week guest events when I was there, but I suppose all of the hotels were like this. The rooms were medium sized and efficient. The cabin feel worked well and the amenities were adequate. I like the accent lighting, but in my room I couldn't turn out most of the lights without losing all of them. It was weird to me that the bathroom light (with no door to block it) had to stay on if I had the accent lights on. The view was fantastic, but it is not in the heart of anything. It is close to some of the NYC activity but is still a bit of a walk to anything real. Overall it is a bit gimmicky and quite pricey for what you get, but I did enjoy it and am glad I spent at least one night in somewhere as unique as this.
