Danji is a bustling and compact gem close to the theater district. The service was warm and attentive, and the food was outstanding. The tofu was the best I've ever had, and the shrimp and scallion pancakes were great. We're looking forward to going back.

This review is strictly for Danji's lunch session - I did not manage to get to the dinner session. The lunch menu is kind of disappointing, a short list of maybe 7 to 8 appetizers, a shorter list of bi-bim baps and a cold noodle for entrees. Not much to choose from.

The taco bulgogi was interestingly good, but the bi bim bap was a disappointment. Rice was lukewarm and soggy, and the rest of the condiments were underwhelming in taste. Very little pork belly meat in the dish. The biggest flavor was their spicy sauce, which added a kick to the dish - otherwise, the rest of the dish is a bit bland. Maybe I am more used to the bolder more flavorful version of Korean food.

Service was unengaging, with a depressed looking hostess.

All in all a very strange experience for what used to be a 1 Michelin starred restaurant.

If you're looking for a traditional Korean meal and simply don't appreciate fusion food don't eat at Danji as you will be disappointed. My wife I went after catching a Broadway show and simply put we enjoyed our dinner and drinks. It was a little cramped given it is a small space, but we felt the service was good and the food great!

Very good food in the theatre district. The place is small, intimate, prepare to share a common table, as our family of 5 did with a couple. The food was fantastic. Small plates. When the menu says small in terms of the size, please interpret it literally.
We were very impressed by the chef with the KFC and the Pork belly.
Sorry to say that the service was not so impressive. I would not want to work where people were not happy. I certainly don't want to spend my time outside of work where people are not happy. We sat next to the bar and neither the server nor the bartender ever cracked a smile or said a positive word during the meal. Not good.
Good luck with this place. I hope your experience is better than mine. The food's great.

Despite being a little squished at 9.30 sitting we were over the moon with our degustation menu. After a big day and Cats we were exhausted but determined to enjoy our last night in Manhattan. The service was great - friendly and informative. Definitely recommend this place for some delicious Korean!!
