Our family of 6 from Australia went on 2 food tours with sidewalks of New York during our recent visit to NYC. Our ages ranged from 18 to 58 and we all loved it!
One tour visited the lower East side and he other the West village.
. Places visited were diverse and we enjoyed great food at all. Favorite was Artichoke pizza and a dumpling shop. We went back to both places several times after our tour . Our tour leader was Dante and he was the best. Dante provided us a with great stories about NYC and the restaurants we visited. Both tours were so much fun and also run very smoothly. pDante also went out of his way to take us on the subway after the tour to show us how to get to The Guitar Centre for my son to pick up his guitar which he had ordered online,
Would recommend this tour to anyone who has just arrived in NYC as it is a great way to explore and get a feel for the city,

Today myself and 7 friends did the lower east side food tour with josh from sidewalks of new york. It was a great day. Lots of fun facts added into the tour, we all learned something new today! All of the eateries we visited were great!!! Got to visit Economy Candy talk about candy floor to ceiling, you name it they had it. Many childhood memories like candy cigarettes, big league chew, sky bar, just to name a few.... North dumpling on Essex street was amazing..... the pickle guy, Katz's deli, Yonah Schimmel Knish bakery, russ & daughter's, Goodfellows, and Donut plant were all the places we visited. brought something home from almost place we visited and will go back to all of them. We are looking forward to doing another tour in the not so distant future!!! Would highly recommend this tour company to anyone who wants to get an inside look at parts of New York, you just wouldn't visit on your own!! We are from New York and I have to admit have never been to any of the places we were at today!!!!!!! Loved it~

Fantastic Tour in the West Village! On this tour you will taste delicious pizza, drink great beer, visit historic landmarks and learn of the colorful characters and celebrities who were affluent in the West Village. The tour was fun and so informative! While walking to the next destination, our guide Mike discussed interesting facts and pointed out historic sites that you would not be likely to find on a tourist map. Also, a lot of stories you may not find in Frommers! The pizza was delicious and while tasting you will hear the history of pizza and pizza making! I now have a new appreciation for all types of pizza. I highly recommend this tour, and cannot wait to take the Lower East Side Food Tour next!

What a great tour!!! Pizza = good. Beer = good. West Village History = good :-) A different and highly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. We sampled pizza from some of NY's finest pizzeria landmarks, had a few beers in similar milestone establishments, and along way discussed the history behind it all (in addition to chatting about the pizza and beer of course). Great way to spend an afternoon!!! Really love these guys - great tours at great prices. I have taken a few with them now and have never been disappointed. Keep 'em coming!

We took a 12/28 tour with Mike. We met the group (8 total) on McDougal and 6th Ave and proceeded to have one of the best walking tours ever. My wife and I are no strangers to guided tours but we were immediately impressed by how personable and knowledgeable Mike was (we later learned he was a native of Manhattan). We kicked right off with slices at Artichoke, including face-time with the owner as he and Mike educated us on the finer points of pizzacraft and pizza history in NY. This was delicious pie but it was just the start. We headed out to the new Kettle of Fish bar on Christopher street and on the way stopped at Washington Square Park for a round of history including the Hanging Tree, the Succession of the West Village, and the drinking escapades of noted NYC literary figures. While we asked Mike questions (his knowledge of the area's history was really deep and broad) a crowd gathered to watch a huge red hawk feast on something he'd caught at the base of the Hanging Tree just a few feet from us--one of those moments you really want to have a camera ready for).
Before we had time to feel the cold we were at the Kettle of Fish. This was a new locale but as Mike poured us glasses of microbrew by the fireplace, he filled us in on the history of the Kettle and its role in the Village's beat culture (apparently it figured prominently in a feud between Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol). Again Mike's knowledge of the bar's history and the Village's ties to the bar were really dazzling and this whole tour felt like being shown around town by an old friend.
We made our next two pizza stops back to back at Joe's on Carmine street and John's on Bleecker respectively (their addresses I can't remember), for a more typical NYC slice and a brick-oven slice in that order. I could see why Mike saved John's brick oven slice for last...it was the best of the three (one word: crust), but I absolutely liked the other two for their own merits. To be fair, Joe's and Artichoke's were also far better than any of the random joints you might grab a slice at in the city.
We wound up the tour at the Whitehorse Tavern--mugs of good beer in a cozy and clearly historied place while Mike regaled us with its rich literary history. We actually stayed a bit after we'd Q&A'ed Mike thoroughly (by this point the beer was making us all chipper and more inquisitive than the cold air outside had). Through it all Mike seemed to genuinely feed off our energy and the more we questioned and quipped, the more stories and lore he had for us. This was really a great time and I would highly recommend the tour to anybody who wants a fun eating, drinking and pop history experience.
