“NEW AGE INDIAN food, a truly unique experience”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

This is truly a gourmet experience with phenomenal food and drinks. the decor was tasteful and the spice mixes were innovative. In the basement, there was a display of the custom mixes of spices they do which was fascinating. As an Indian American, I am usually not interested in eating Indian food in restaurants, usually everything is much better at home. The inspired, creative dishes here were something really out of the box that took ideas from various regions of India but was also combined with elements native to this hemisphere. Our waiter was very honest and steered us towards fantastic dishes. Some comments I have read about the small portions are true but I think no different from most gourmet offerings. At our table, we discussed the quite variable reviews that we had read online and we asked the waiter about them. we found out that they have had some intermittent coverage from their executive chefs but that has been addressed and they will have consistent coverage starting this month. He didn't say that was the reason, but it makes sense. Some can't miss dishes: eggplant Chaat (app), garlic cauliflower (app), lamb/turkey kebab (app), hyderabadi chicken korma (entree), baby eggplant (entree) and paneer app. We had a chili paneer that was really hot, which I didn't eat but everything else was mild enough. A word about the drinks: really interesting. the most INCREDIBLE, ABSOLUTELY delicious drink was the ginger punch served in a copper mug on ice with a honey flavoring. Just wonderful. the mumbai margarita was great. in the bar we were served the Masala Margarita which is a flaming drink which was a spectacular display but a little ho-hum in the flavor department. Desserts were uncharacteristically good for an Indian restaurant. the chocolate hazelnut cake, and the goat cheese cheesecake were really really good. The reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the bathrooms. NOT at all up to par compared to the rest of the experience. for such a great restaurant with attention to the detail of the spices, the bathrooms are just gross. Not unusable, if you have to go, but not too nice. sort of gas station level. Otherwise, though, had a great experience. I will definitely go back.

““Excellent Indian Food””
Reviewed February 19, 2014

This is my first time here and I can say the food was unbelievably good, maybe the best Indian food I ate.I orderd a vegetarian tasting menu and it was absolutely incredible, flavorful food.
I loved the experience. I will come back soon.

“Loved the entire experience”
Reviewed February 10, 2014 via mobile

Loved the entire package... food, seating, service and the decor. We were seated close to the open kitchen so we enjoyed the cooking action. The servers were very honest in recommending dishes and also customized the dish for our spice level. The dessert - appricot pudding with green chile ice cream - was creative and left us wanting more.

“No star here”
Reviewed February 9, 2014

How this restaurant has a Michelin star is beyond me, The candle lit ambiance is lovely but offset by a loud dining area. And even though we arrived a on time, the restaurant tried to steer us to the bar until our guests arrived. SInce we don't drink (and told them that),we just ended up blocking the area. Once at our table, our main waiter was gazing around everywhere but at us when he began to take our order for drinks, Then he abruptly left without a 'Pardon Me' and came back 5 minutes later with no apology. Had we not been entertaining another couple, that would have been the end of the evening. Unfortunately it was not. The menu looks interesting but the descriptions do not tell you the level of heat. And after a while, it was clear that the chef is hoping that people will come and expect 'hot'. And I had to remind the waiter of some dishes that were not served. Having cooked Indian food for over 40 years, I was very surprised at the lack of sophistication and edibility. And when most of the dishes were left with only a bit eaten, the question was did we want to take it home rather than were there any issues. If there are no better Indian restaurants in NYC, dine at the Bombay Club in Washington, DC, for a truly Michelin experience.

“Groupon got us there...great experience will bring us back”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

A fabulous Groupon Five course dinner offer brought us to Junoon although we've never heard of it. We arrived early and relaxed in the comfortable lounge. Presenting a Groupon for a dinner that would have cost $75 per person did not alter the warmth and professionalism of the entire staff. The cocktails, ambiance, and incredibly flavorful food will bring us back again and again.
