Description: Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian brings his vision of a contemporary New York grand cafe to life at The National Bar & Dining Rooms. Housed in the same 1927 Emery Roth-designed building as The Benjamin Hotel, The National's all-occasion modern bistro offerings satiate guests from breakfast through late night. Modeled after the celebrated grand cafes in Europe, The National is both residential and metropolitan in design and offers thoughtful details such as antiqued mirrors, a bronze spiral staircase, distressed peacock blue and chocolate leather banquettes, classic marble table tops, and black and white glazed-tile flooring.

“Great Bistro food, but the waiter was slooooooooooow”
Reviewed June 25, 2014

We were a group of four friends, all of us had an early evening meal, and a check/bill split, to which we added the minimum 15% tip, basically we were overlooked, then ignored, and then served with a minimum of panache or speed! The food was really good, we all had well presented, and tasty food, and the prices were fair, considering where we were, New York eateries can me top dollar! Do give it a try, they have a lovely sides menu, that go with almost everything, New York strip excellant, and the ugly burger, I believe was yummy, so enjoy.

“Nice Twists on Old Standbys”
Reviewed June 21, 2014

A cool place that looks like it might not have changed much since the teens or 20's, with neatly tiled floors, and a feeling somewhere between a coffee shop and a café. Consistently good food somewhat unexpectedly prepared (especially the delicious eggs benedict), with some good wines, and a good location. If heading to Sunday brunch, make sure to make reservations.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

While visiting New York we tried out The National for the first time. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the service excellent. Our server was knowledgeable and very helpful. He recommended some of his favorites which we tried. We were not disappointed. Everything we tried was superb from the cocktails to the dessert. We highly recommend this restaurant.

“Great NYC bistro food”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

Went for an early dinner, opened the dining room at 5:30. We had good service, table are small, so lots of plate juggling needed. Cheese board was very good. Branzino and octopus were excellent, worth the trip. Chicken soup was less successful, not a great mouth feel and overly seasoned. Interesting beers, added to the enjoyment.
