I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this hotel, especially given that the rate was so competitive and I've learned the hard way over the years that the old adage "you get what you pay for" is so very true in NYC. It was like a little W-Lite in the heart of Chelsea, a clean, comfortable, affordable, stylish hotel that almost feels boutique, but has the standard Marriott-brand touches. The staff was friendly and helpful, the complimentary breakfast more than ample and the free wi-fi is always welcome. One note for any business travelers or travelers who need to work in the room like I did: The room set-up is not that condusive to working, the LED lighting is not that bright (I had to call down to have 2 extra lamps sent into the room) and the desk is that comfortable or conveniently located, at least in my room. Still for the price it's an incredible value in NY.

We stayed at the Fairfield Chelsea for 3 nights over Christmas. This place was fantastic. It is very conveniently located on the corner of 28th and 6th. This made for a very short trip to Madison Square Garden and was also convenient to Times Square. The hotel is brand new. The rooms are very well appointed. They are fairly small but not as small as other places we have stayed in NYC. We stayed in a room with a king bed. There was also a nice unit on the opposite wall that was a desk, a dresser (with 8 drawers!) and it held the flat screen TV. The bathroom was beautiful with gorgeous fixtures. We had a great view of the Empire State building from our room. We were on the 11th floor and had no issue with noise.

The folks at the front desk were always helpful and always cheerful. The breakfast was fine and the breakfast room was bright and cheery.

I would definitely stay here again.

(PS. Don't miss going to the Ginger House Chinese restaurant 1 block away on 7th Avenue. Delicious!)

I stayed for one night at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Chelsea. This was an amazing value for Manhattan. the hotel is located 3 blocks from a PATH train entrance and just a few additional blocks to Manhattan Mall, Penn Station and Macys, making it an ideal location for shoppers. The lobby is small and basic, so I can imagine it could get crowded during a check-in rush, but it was not when we got there. The front desk staff was very friendly and our multiple calls for additional blankets and were handled quickly and professionally. We stayed in the king suite (the other option was a suite with 2 double beds). The suite was huge, especially by NYC standards with 2 bathrooms and a small pull out coach in the sitting area. Plenty of room for the 3 adukts and 1 child we traveled with. A continental breakfast is served in the am with cereals, muffins, coffee and the like.

Very happy with this stay and would stay again if we need a suite.

This is a good value hotel for Manhattan. The hotel is new, clean and the staff were able to accommodate me by holding my luggage prior to check-in (I arrived early.) The room had a king sized bed. NY standards for hotel rooms are smaller but other hotel provide a dresser and a place to put your suitcase. This one does not.

The room needs to be more cleverly designed so that there is a place to put your stuff. So this was downside. Not a huge one though.

On the upside, everything in the hotel worked well. Free WiFi is great. The breakfast area is quite nice with a decent spread. I liked very much that the breakfast area is used informally I think as a place to have a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

Overall, a good enough place.

This is a new hotel that just opened on December 6, 2010. I checked in yesterday and wanted to share my review of the hotel.

The hotel is located on the same block of W. 28th Street as the Hotel Indigo and Hilton Garden Inn amidst many wholesale florists. The lobby is fairly small with just a few chairs. I was greeted warmly by the front desk clerk. As a Gold, I inquired about an upgrade and snagged an Executive King on the 16th Floor. The hotel has 18 floors plus a penthouse.

The room is better than average size for NYC. The decor is quite attractive with light brown (sand) wallpaper and carpeting and black furniture.

It also has a large sliding glass "balcony" door which spans from the floor to within a foot of the ceiling. Unfortunately, you can only open this door about a foot. Their is no actual balcony, only a metal railing to protect you from falling. Nevertheless, the door allows in plenty of light to make the room seem bigger plus a great view of the Empire State Building.

The closet and bathroom are small, but the glass shower stall is large enough for two people. The shower stall is fully enclosed, unlike some other new hotels with a half a door. The vanity is made of black stone with copper flecks (as is the work desk). There is plenty of room for toiletries on the vanity and on both sides of the cabinet below.

The bed was very comfortable. I noticed some street noise but not any noise from the hall or nearby rooms.

The TV is a 37-inch Philips flat screen with 39 channels, none of which were available in HD. I would expect a lot more channels and HDTV in a new hotel! The work desk is large and free wired and wireless internet is available. You do need to get a password from the front desk to connect.

There is a fitness center and vending machines on the lower level. Breakfast is served from 7 AM to 10 AM on the lobby level. Typical Fairfield Inn continental breakfast items. But please avoid the ham and cheese quiche. It was dreadful - the ham was gray, not pink!

Right now, the hotel is a great value with rates under $200 for low demand periods.

All in all, the new hotel is quite nice with only a few disappointments. My letter grade rating: B+.
