Upon arrival, we were given a room on the 14th floor. Our keys wouldn't work in the door, so we went back to front desk and they fixed the keys. When we opened the door, we noticed someone else's stuff all over the room. I called front desk and told them it looked like someone else was staying in this room. Back down we went and turns out she reversed the numbers. Umm, oops. Checked into correct room and found it to be nice but a little worn and tired. Needs a new paint job and some new carpet. Also, it would be recommended to at least remove the 'W' hotel stickers from the mini fridge. (Previous owners of this hotel.) However, the room was clean and comfortable, so it was average in my book. Not sure if it was quite worth the price, but it is NY. The only other issue was that on the last day of a 5 day stay our room cards wouldn't work. Since my spouse was out, I went to front desk. Since reservation was in his name, they wouldn't reactivate my card even though we had been there 5 days and the room was already paid for. The guy made me call my boyfriend so he could ask what card was used for the room. The answer was VISA. This is the verification he needed? WOW. He had a real attitude and made some comment about the law...I wanted to mention how easily THEY had let us into someone else's room already.... Location was decent. Very close to Grand Central station and subways and we had a partial view of the Empire State building. I am not one to complain and as I previously said, the room was okay. It was the actions of the staff that gave me more of a negative opinion of the hotel. Oh and internet in the room is $16.95 a day. Outrageous. It is free in the lobby if you want to sit there...they did print my boarding pass free of charge. So, even though there were some downsides, overall it was a decent stay. In the future, I would probably look for another hotel that was a little nicer, but would I stay in this hotel again.
