We arrived at the hotel at 11:00am and were able to check in our room right away.
The staff was pleasant. The room was small, but not cramped. The bathroom was small but very clean!!
The bottles of waters were a nice touch- especially since it was over 90 degrees during our stay.
It was close to the theatre (which was why we were in NYC) and of course there are tons of restaurants all around.
We were able to check our bags when we checked out and then pick them up before heading out of the city late that day.
I would recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for our 25th anniversary and it couldn't have been better. We arrived and were immediately assigned our room. The room was clean and large enough for the 2 of us. We stayed in a superior room with a kitchenette. It had a microwave and a fridge. Our room had a view of both Radio City and The Plaza, if we zoomed our cameras we could see the Today show. The lobby area is open without a standard check in desk, so there is direct access to the concierges. The hotel is in the perfect location in midtown, the subways are only a few blocks away or less and it is within walking distance of most Broadway shows and Times Square. There are plenty of places to eat near the hotel that don't break the budget and are good. There is a Starbucks in the Rockefeller Plaza Concourse just across the street. The bathroom does only have a shower so no tub for soaking after walking during the day. There is a Duane Reade just down the street that is open 24 hours for anything that may have been forgotten at home. The pillows were just the right amount of fluffy, but the bed was a little hard for my taste, my husband thought it was great as he likes a firmer bed. I couldn't have asked for a better hotel stay, it checked all our boxes and the employees were friendly and always greeted us with a smile. I saw some reviews that talked about street noise, that was not my experience at all, at night the streets became quiet and very little noise was heard. We ate breakfast at the sister hotel down the block and it was ok ( a separate review is coming). The elevators were fast and secure, you have to put your room key in when going up from the lobby or going to any other floor but the ground floor. The only complaint I have is some of the television channels would lose signal and we couldn't watch some programs, especially NBC, channel 5 on the tv, but I wasn't there to watch tv so it wasn't too much of a concern and I never complained to the front desk.. The bottled water stations were great and we took advantage of those. The ice buckets are in the room with the ice machine rather than in your room which was fine with me. The exercise room along with vending and ice are located on the 5th floor, the exercise room is well equipped with stair climbers and treadmills, they also have yoga mats, Pilates balls, and steps and you can request these to be sent to your room if your prefer to work out in your room. All in all it was a great vacation and we are planning to take our grandson back during the holidays so he can experience New York during Christmas. This was our first time travelling to New York and we could not have asked for better experience. Great hotel, great staff, great city.

We stayed at the Jewel for four nights at the end of June. The location was excellent, although no Restaurant onsite, there were loads nearby. Rooms were quite small, especially for one in our group who got the 'penthouse' room, which was extremely tiny, but it was more than made up for by the great service, and the little extras such as free wifi, free bottled and chilled self serve water and a guest lounge. I'd definately stay here again and would reccomend this hotel to anyone looking for an affordable, clean and modern hotel in the heart of NY!

Room Tip: Avoid corner rooms or penthouse as these rooms were smaller.

We stayed at the Jewel during the July 4 weekend. Our experience was excellent. Great staff, great service. You immediately notice that the hotel sets itself apart from the typical, overpriced franchise hotels, as it offers many complimentary ammenities that others charge an arm and a leg for (free Internet, free purified water with bottles, microwave and refrigirator in the room, etc.).

On top of all this, the location is just perfect, right in the middle of Rockefeller Center. In addition, there's a 24-hour Duane Reade right down the street in case you ever need anything. Makes for an all-around great experience.

My only criticism, and it really can't be a completely valid one in NYC, would be the room size. We had three in the room. It had a king size bed and they provide a roll-away. (They also provide sofa beds in some of the rooms). A little bit of a tight squeeze, but I will say, they definitely know how to make good use of limited real estate. But like I said, small rooms are pretty typical of most NYC hotels.

This place is great. Not a huge hotel. Maybe 8-10 rooms to a floor. Staff is great. Rooms are very well layed out so even though it's not a huge room it doesn't feel little either. Bed was so comfortable we slept late (unusual for us).

Room Tip: We've only seen one type of room but it's very comfortable.

This was my second stay at the Jewel and this hotel is perfect if you need a one or two night stay in NYC. The rooms are modern, nicely decorated, and are perfectly sized for those who need a bed in NYC. It is located right next to Rockefeller Center (the name does not lie) and is nice stay for the upper half of the theatre district. We hope to stay many more times in the future.

The location of this hotel can't be beat. You are a few steps from 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and a short walk to Times Square, Theater District and to Central Park.

If you like a big bustling hotel lobby with shops and restaurants in it, then this won't be for you. It is a very small, efficient entry with no fanfare, but you will be greeted by a friendly staff member who will check you in. The lobby is staffed 24 hours.

I booked this room on Priceline (name your own price) and got the Standard room for $165.00 a night. I was really excited once I saw that the hotel was in such a great location and that it had such great reviews on TripAdvisor, however, I was a little bummed when I saw that it was a Queen bed. My husband and I have King at home so that's what we're used to. I called the hotel and upgraded to the Superior Room with kitchenette for $20 more per night. It is a larger room and it's nice to have a fridge and microwave.

Also, I requested a front-facing room (facing 51st Street) so we have a nice view of Rockefeller Center (see photos attached). Please note that the King is really 2 Twin beds made together into a King. You can separate them if you want to or keep it made up as a King as we did. The beds are not the world's most comfy. They are a little too firm. If you like a hard bed, you'll be happy.

The hotel provides free WiFi in the rooms and the common areas, which is great for NY because you usually get nailed with an extra charge at most hotels here. They also have a chilled, purified water dispenser on every floor with a supply of sealed, empty water bottles so you can fill up for free and take with you anytime. The hotel will also lend you an ipad while you're here at no charge.

There is no restaurant in this building but there is a sister hotel a couple of doors down so you can order room service and they will bring it to you. Of course, it is New York so you can also order food from about a hundred other restaurants in the area who will deliver to you.

There is a very nice lounge on the 2nd Floor where you can hang out with friends or family since the rooms are a bit small for socializing. The lounge has free coffee, cappuccino, espresso, tea, a couple of computers and a printer, a TV and a fake fireplace for visual effect. There is also free laundry (just one stacked washer/dryer) on the 5th floor in the same room as the gym, so you can do some wash while working out, if you like. There's a vending machine for snacks and also an ice machine there as well.

The housekeeping was reliable every day and everyone here was very nice. The air conditioner worked great in this heat wave. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: upgrade to the superior room if you want king (really 2 twins linked together) instead of queen bed...
