“Perfect Location”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Stayed at the Jewel from October 6 – 14. The rooms are fairly small, just enough room for two big suitcases. The room has an iPod dock, a microwave and a small fridge. The hair dryer was nice but it kept on overheating and stopped working until it cooled down a bit. The bed was really comfortable and there was a digital control for the A/C right beside the bed so you didn’t have to get up in the middle of the night to adjust the temperature in the room.

We had a room on the 15th floor (there are only 15 floors in this hotel) overlooking 51st Street with a view of Rockefeller Centre and a St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The view was nice, however, you can hear pretty much everything going on street level. You can hear the crowd lined up next door at the bar, you can hear construction machinery on the street (sidewalks are currently being repaired on 51st St) and there was one night when they were clearing out planters at Rockefeller Centre at 3am, and you can hear the machinery working on that too. I can also hear the elevators going all night from inside the room.

The water pressure on our floor was also very low. There are water bottle stations at each floor (except the 15th floor, where you have to go down to the 14th floor to get water), but it took forever to fill-up a bottle on the 14th floor. I would recommend going down to the 5th floor if you want to fill up multiple bottles.

Check in and check out were a breeze and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The location was awesome, close to everything and the crowds aren’t as crazy compared to Times Square area hotels. It was also nice that you don’t have to wait forever for an elevator to go to your room. Overall, I was satisfied with our stay and would probably stay again if there are no better deals at other hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Pick a hotel at the highest floor, and maybe sacrifice the view for some quiet at the back of the bu...

We stayed 5 nights. Location was fantastic, plenty to see and do - and eat at - within easy walking distance. Room was compact but comfortable and had an outdoor balcony. Hotel had all the amenities we required without extras we didn't - doorman & porters. Bottled water with refils on each floor was a nice touch which we made frequent use of. We would recommend this hotel for any first-time visitor to New York.

My Husband and I stayed at the Jewel for five days in September. I couldn't fault this hotel on location, cleanliness and service. However our room was at the back of the hotel and overlooked some offices. I had hoped for a nice view. Also no restaurant or bar.

Recently returned home after spending 6 nights in The Jewel. I honestly can not fault this hotel...perfect location as it is in walking distance of Central Park, Times Square, 5th Avenue and Broadway and of course a stone throw away from Rockefeller. We booked a standard double room but on arrival were delighted to have been given a superior room on the 14th floor with a view, the room was well laid out and very clean, the room was pretty small but for all your in it it's not really a problem. All the reception staff were very polite and helpful. The free bottled water on every floor is an excellent touch as is the guest cupboard which stores irons and boards. I would not hesitate in booking this hotel again and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a pleasant value for money stay in the city that never sleeps.

I recently booked The Jewel due to meetings in the Rockefeller Plaza area. The location can't be beat if this is the area you choose to stay. It is literally right in front of the Plaza, with access to Radio City just 1/2 block away, 5th Ave. shopping right outside your door, etc. It is a "no frills" hotel -- there really isn't a traditional hotel lobby to speak of, but check in and check out were amazing fast (when you walk in the hotel, there is a small desk to the right with a woman at a computer to assist with check-in). The rooms themselves are fine -- small, but very clean and well kept. The bed was relatively comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. I've stayed at many NYC hotels; I would consider this one a good choice if the Rock Plaza area is where you want to be without paying an arm and a leg.

Room Tip: ironing boards are in a closet in the hallway, not in rooms, so if you need one, that's where yo...

My wife and I booked this for a kids free first trip to NYC! We were very happy with our selection, we spent lots of time reading reviews and then packaged the deal with expedia. Great deal for flight and rooms. The fact they will hold your bags prior to check in and after check out was great. We arrived at the hotel at 8am and didn;t return till 10pm. Long day and we were very thankful our hotel was close to everything we did. The room was clean with very good use of space. Bed was super comfortable and the windows open to get some 'fresh' air. Staff were very polite and took care of all of our questions and suggested great places to eat. The Bouchon bakery across the street at Rockafeller is amazing! Very modern hotel and they have thought of everything. Will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Only room recommendation would be to possibly avoid the rooms on the second floor near the 'livi...

Very good hotel for the price and location. Its right next to rockefeller center. Very close to a lot of subways and right behind fifth avenue as well. Safe location for women! The room and bathroom was clean. Fast internet. The staff was polite and gave good sightseeing tips. I even got to check in 3 hours early as I arrived by a morning flight. Will definitely stay here again if I get the chance!
