“One Day Only”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We were in NYC over Last New Year when the place was packed and very cold (even the locals were complaining). Acting on what seems to be the general consensus on tripadvisor we went with the red busses ( Gray Line). Firstly we got on a bus at Times Square but only just - plenty of people had to wait (and wait). Our bus had plastic covering up top which made it bearable on the cold but lots didn't - including the Brooklyn tour which meant we didn't go on it. We sat at Times Square for about 30 mins waiting for a tour guide to arrive (no explanation no apology) and when he did he spent the first 10 minutes telling us what a terrible company they were to work for ( a theme regularly repeated over the next hour). The guide was moderately informative and thought he was funny (he wasn't). By the Brooklyn stop we had had enough and got off. By then we had passed stop after stop where we didn't pick up because there was no space ont he bus. Frankly it was all a bit of a shambles but I suspect that at a less busy time it wouldn't be as bad. We gave up on trying to hop on and hop off and used the subway (easy cheap efficient). I agree with other reviewers who say get a one day pass - no more - do a lap to get your bearings and then use the subway. Also compared to Australia cabs are cheap and plentiful so they can be a good option but you will only get 3 in a cab.

“Fun way to see the city”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

At first we thought our guide on the bus was scary! He was shouting at his driver and we all there like naughty school children.
However, beforelong, he had us in stitches!
He gave an interesting and fun tour around the city, and we all enjoyed it!
As we had gone in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there was a lot of disruption on the streets, with repairs going on. But the driver found an alternative route, which added to the interesting tour.
Would recommend this, especially to first timers, to give a better insight to the different areas of the city.

“Green Tour Bus Company - New York”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

We were in NY over Christmas and bought a 3day ticket for seeing all the sights. I should have stayed with the red bus company as I have used them previously in New York.
We bought the tickets and made our way up to pick up the bus, we started with Downtown tour and this was great except the tour guyde realised we were Irish and decided to try and do our accent (albeit very badly) proceeded to slag the Irish off continuosly!
We thought a that was just a bad tour, we will go on to the next one beig the up town tour. We were told it picks up at 3.30 on the guide book we were given, we waited from 1440 - 1600 and the bus did not show up, when i bumped into a ticket agent and asked about it, he said oh it is at 1430 you were given the guide for 2013, so we were advised to go the next day at the correct time! I was starting to get annoyed at all the carryon! We had the night time tour to go on still so thought just go and get it over with.
We headed down to pick up the tour that was scheduled to leave at 1800 and it did not leave until 1850, the majority of the earphone ports on the top deck did not work and i asked the superviser about this and he said the tour guide will just have to talk loudly! No one on the top deck knew where we were or what sights we were seeing and the tour guide stayed downstairs for most of the tour. Then when i complained about it he said there was nothing he could do that i should go to their office, which was closed! All in all I found them to be cowboys, all about getting the passengers on the tour and getting the money
I was so disappointed as we were on our honeymoon and my husband has never been to NY and I had pushed for the city tours!

“Informative and humorous.”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We really enjoyed the hop on hop off tours. The guide was funny and was really good about pointing out all the sights and buildings. He also answered our questions. I would recommend using this to see the most commonly visted sights and learning about different parts of the city and then you can go back and explore on your own.
