I planned to stay here with a friend at the beginning of May. We told we would arrive at 6, but when we came at that time the room was not ready yet, and the owner seemed overwhelmed by having to do 3 rooms in one day. The whole place is rather old fashioned, and not in a good shape.
We left the same night we arrived due to the fact that we found bedbugs crawling everywhere in our room. It took 5 minutes to catch 3 full grown bugs (also in the bed), and smaller ones were on the walls. Fortunately we didn't open our suitcases yet, so we managed to escape clean. Nonetheless, trying to find an affordable hotel in Manhattan around midnight is no fun. Also, we paid for three night on arrival, and even though they say cancellation policy is one night's pay, we only got a small portion of the money back and ended up paying $200 for a room full of bedbugs that we left even before the first night.
The owners also told us conflicting stories, according to the husband they never had bugs before, and he even accused us of bringing them, although we never had this problem either before or after. On the other hand, his wife told us later she had seen bugs before with an earlier guest. In later email exchange however she changed her story completely and even claimed she didn't see those bugs in our room, although we showed them immediately.
The location is also not great, although it is very close to a metro station. When leaving the station you are greeted by junks / drug dealers who are a bit too interested in your clothes and belongings.
Do NOT go to this place unless they properly exterminate their bug problem. They spray the rooms before you arrive, but 5 minutes of searching online shows that this is NOT the way to get rid of these bugs. They are highly resistant, and you have a high chance of bringing the problem home with you, as they crawl in your clothes and luggage without you noticing. Do NOT go here.
