This was a regular spot for me to come to, to get work done over the past few years. Decent coffees, nice working spot and not too far from the beginning of Central Park for when you want to clear your head amidst one of the craziest neighbourhoods of NYC.

This place lived up to my expectations! Waited until exactly one month before our visit to make the reservations. Worth every penny. Such a cool dining experience.

Ma Peche is a great choice for a casual but tasty asian dishes. The dining room is steps below the entrance with austere and modern simple design. However, while the plates appear simple, the flavors are complex and very satisfying. A "dim sum" like carte rolls by with plate offerings. Go slow is our suggestion. Take your time or you could finish quickly. The staff were very pleasant and informative. The food standouts: Duck bun and soft shell crab. The chocolate cake desert was a good finish. Great for a simple quick uncomplicated treat.

We visited Ma Peche late afternoon for lunch, prior to the dinner rush. Despite this, we were expecting to have some difficulty eating with a toddler + stroller. We we a bit surprised at how accommodating staff were around this - they found us a nice out of the way spot downstairs, made room for our stroller and stuff, and were generally all-around pleasant to our 2-year old. Win-win when you can have a nice meal and not be worried about the kid being stressed, or other guests being uncomfortable. Note that this wouldn't have been possible later in the evening - even as we left, the crowd was already growing in both density and hipness.

Service was excellent. We find that experienced servers know to do little things when dealing with small kids, making good suggestions, automatically re-arranging the table keep plates & sharp cutlery away, or lighting the candles out of their range. We definitely didn't expect that kind of awareness here, so were very pleased when multiple servers got all the little things right.

Items were also timed and sequenced expertly to keep everyone happy.

Food was very good and inventive. We enjoyed all the dishes, which were remarkably palatable to a toddler despite being complex enough for the adults. My only complaint is that value wasn't great. We were more than happy to leave a generous tip reflecting generous service, but some of the dishes seemed to have a real disconnect between price and plate given that this isn't always really fine or hyper-skilled cuisine. Not terrible, just inconsistent - some dishes offer much better value than others. That might just be a day-to-day thing given how the menu changes, and our experience is already a year dated.

This is a tough one. I was excited to try one of the restaurants in Danny's empire. Walked in and was seated quickly by a good guy who told us if nothing else, try the fried chicken. Good first impression.

We sat down and ordered drinks that took awhile to get to the table (6:15 reservation), but cool...drinks were tasty.

Here's what we had:

Fried chicken (very good) non spicy
Lamb noodles (agree w yelpers, greasy...but OK)
pork bun (tasty and I'd do that again)
crab dip (good but small)
ice cream type dessert (cereal milk taste and we all loved that)

We might have had one more item, but I can't remember it...so might not have loved it.

Here is my confusion. There are too many carts coming by to really take anything in. There is the cold cart, the hot cart, the carving cart, the special cart and the dessert cart...please no MORE carts!

And the service started OK, but got aloof as the meal went along. The waiter told us he would be back to show us the dessert cart (NOOOOOO) and we never saw him again.

So, with all the great NYC spots...not sure I'd go again.
