“Great place to stay in NYC”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

Central location thats close to the metro and times square. The rooms are massive and so very comfortable for us staying there with our baby. Excellent views from our 34th floor room. Breakfast is complimentary and okay but does get quite busy. Room has a kitchenette which was fantastic for us. The gym was excellent. The only con is the elevator can be a bit slow as there are only 3 lifts servicing over 40 floors, especially during peak hours i.e. 8-10am.

very good hotel , well situated: close to time square, Empire State building, Macey's, BB King Lucille's show, etc.. :o)
we appreciated the staff, very helpful
room was clean , enough place for the family + microwave oven + big fridge
we had a fantastic view from the 29th floor on the skysprapers and New York Times building
it is only with breakfast but everytime enough food , coffee and fresh fruits !!!
at the beginning of the week , between 5-6:30 pm there is a kind of brunch (well done!)
4 Mac for internet surfing + printer
from the roof there is a view till East River !
thanks to Kathryn (general manager) and to her staff for having done this possible !

Room Tip: select a room with NY times building on the right and higher than 25th floor

Booked a room here at the last minute for a Sunday night stay and got an excellent deal. Tried to extend it for another night, and they were fully booked - I could easily imagine that this property would be fully booked during the week.

Very good amenities in the room, including a full fledged kitchenette which I was not expecting. Decor was not as dated as some of the other NYC hotels. Room was reasonably spacious. Internet connectivity in the room was good and straightforward - no passwords etc.

Lobby area was a bit congested. There was some noise outside the room, so if you are a light sleeper this could be an issue. Getting the elevator at peak hours may be an issue, I did not have a problem.

Staff were helpful and friendly.

Location was fantastic - I cannot imagine why people want to stay too close to Times Square and pay a hefty premium, rather than staying a few blocks away (15 mins walk) and paying a lot less.

Pretty decent hotel in midtown NYC. Spacious rooms with nice views over manhattan on the higher levels. Decent breakfast and fitness room, very friendly staff. Elevators are rather on the slow side plus it is difficult to find seating space for breakfast on busy mornings. Loved the complimentary "aperitivo".

Due to a mistake by the Starwood Platinum Line my wife and I were offered a free suite upgrade. The room was a of a good size, more a studio than a suite, but for NYC the extra space was very welcome.

The kitchen area is well stocked and there's some real thought put into the cutlery and amenities provided. We didn't have a chance to use any unfortunately which means that big fridge in just kept chilling cold air for the length of our stay.

The bathroom was a good size and I can never say anything negative about a rain shower. The bed was comfortably but not as "heavenly" as others in the Westin chain. As with most NYC hotels you do have to accept sleeping with ear plugs or the infernal roar of an air conditioning unit.

Reception staff are very friendly and the frequent greetings from all staff in the lobby came across as genuine, which cannot be said for a lot of hotels. In fact staff throughout the hotel made an effort to greet and acknowledge guests whenever they encountered them. The free coffee in the lobby is a nice touch for the city and the "complimentary" breakfast, though not of great quality, fills a hole. It is however a daily scrum with the other guests so not the most relaxing of ways to start the day. As with every single hotel in the continental United States the pastries, in particular the croissants, are like stale bricks. Why is it so hard to provide a croissant that's light and flaky? That's not just a gripe at this hotel it's at 99.9% of all purveyors of croissants in the country.

As other reviews have suggested, I strongly recommend asking for a room on the lower floors so you don't have to wait for an elevator.

I used the gym three times during my stay and again, for a mid range NYC hotel it was a pleasant surprise with clean, new equipment, if not the most dazzling variety. As I've found with a lot of Westin though, the iPhone connectors on the vast majority of the cardio equipment were broken. This is always a disappointment as I find watching my own videos while working out makes the whole process pass that much quicker.

Overall, a good hotel in a convenient area if you're sightseeing in the city or, as we were, mixing work and pleasure.

Room Tip: Opt for the lower floors.

Seriously - I don't understand some of the folks who - without context - bash this place. Oh my gosh!

The location here can't be beat. It's convenient to all of Manhattan via multiple subway lines and taxi. Access to Penn Station is awesome.

The hotel itself exceeds what I would expect for NYC at this price point. The room was impeccably clean, and I for one appreciate the solid flooring as opposed to carpet. The bed was comfortable. I would have appreciated ready access to plugs at the bedside - but that's easily fixed. Having a full kitchenette is a nice touch - and the room was well stocked to make it useful. It was spacious by NYC standards, and I found it to be very quiet. I was facing 39th street.

The elevators aren't THAT bad, and it was disclosed when I checked in. Only two bypassed me on the 11th floor. That's not bad by NY standards.

I will DEFINITELY make this my go-to hotel when I'm in the city. No doubt.

This was our second time in NYC and we wanted to be quite close to Times Square and this hotel was excellent for that. The staff were very friendly and when they found out it was our honeymoon, they sent us up a bottle of wine and gave us a late check out which was very kind.

Our room was very nice, we had booked a suite so in New York that gets you a normal size room! There were a few rough edges, such as our smoke alarm was missing it's front cover and they hadn't quite finished painting the green feature wall in our room! However, none of these things affected our enjoyment of the stay so are irrelevant really, but they just take away from those finishing touches that hotels usually aim to achieve.

The hotel provide complimentary tea and coffee all day in the lobby which is nice when you are heading out in the morning. They also offer breakfast which was quite good along with complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks and some buffet food on weekday evenings which is rather impressive and quite rare in NYC i think!

The only real downside to this hotel is that it doesn't have enough elevators to accommodate the number of guests staying. You can be waiting for it for up to 10 minutes in the morning to get down to breakfast! If you can't be bothered with that then request a room on a low floor so you can use the stairs.

Overall this hotel was good, and location wise, you can't beat it for being close to Times Square.

Room Tip: Low floor if you can't be bothered with elevators. High floor if you want a view and it to be qu...
