Description: Favela Cubana is a place where food, music and culture convey. The food is inspired by both Brazilian and Cuban cuisines, with the rich flavors and spices of Latin America. It is not a fusion of both cuisines but rather separate cuisines side-by-side on the same menu.

“Nice place, good mood...”
Reviewed January 2, 2013 via mobile

This is a somewhat appropriately named little Cuban place near Washington Square. All in all we liked the ambience and the mood better than the food. We had a New Year's Eve fixed menu, which was ok, but only the desert was really memorable. And the drinks. And the music. Nice but not great. We saw nothing of the unfriendly treatment that a recent reviewer complained about. We did think that the service could improve by becoming a little better trained, though.

“Viva Cuba!!”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

Simply loved this tiny hole in the wall Cuban. Cozy with fab music and a big screen showing old b&w films of Cuban salsa musicians and dancing. The bar is lined with big barrel bongo drums as stools - and even better, they make a mean mojito. Aps were fantastic - don't hesitate to try the epinadas, chorizo croquettes ans any one of the civeche, served with plantane crisps for dipping. Main courses are more than generous - so no need to order extra sides. The only downer is the lack of intimacy or comfort for seating - too many tables and chairs lining the narrow space - so it feels cramped and it is not a place you would want to linger too long after dinner is finished. Service was attentive and pleasant. Certainly recommend this if you are down in the village looking for an interesting alternative that is affordable and upbeat.

“Good Food Bad Service”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

The food was excellent and so were the drinks. There was some slow service with some of my guests food which had to be resolved with a friend talking to the manager instead of the other way around. Also when the bill came there was a glitch in their system in which they tried to over charge us. Instead of addressing the issue and trying to work with us it became a matter of everyone trying to do math instead of Favela admitting to the mistake. It left a bitter taste in our mouths although we were having a good time. Unfortunately it will be the first and last time for some of my guest due to the poor service.

“Great $5 happy hour appetizers!”
Reviewed February 9, 2012

We were exploring Greenwich Village and looking for Happy Hour food bargains. Husband had a margarita he really enjoyed. I had beef empanadas... just the right amount of spice, great flavor and texture, and samba salad... avocado, mango and kernel corn. Fantastic! People were great and gave us good local advice. Only complaint.... Time Out magazines next to the tables are a bit racy... not suitable if you have kids with you, but this is Greenwich Village.
