“Great Service even During a Hurricane”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

The Marriott Courtyard Soho will never be forgotten for myself and a load of other travelers as this place was our refuge during hurricane Sandy. Even before the hurricane hit I was impressed with the hotel and especially the staff. The hotel is super clean, its close to the Subway, the amenities are on par with other Courtyards and its quaint enough to feel less like a Marriott chain and more at home in NYC. I checked in early and got one of the only rooms available, 901 to be exact and the view was not good, actually it was terrible but this is NY and you should always expect a really great view or a terrible one. I suggest asking for any room other than one ending in "01".

The reason I give this hotel a 5 star rating is the staff. I was always greeted with a smile and a can do attitude by the staff. Myself like so many other guest were unable to get out of NY so we had no choice but to ride out the storm. The hotel prepared well for the massive hurricane and they handled the situation very well in my opinion. We were always kept abreast of the situation and they prepared all the guest rooms for a loss of power, which did happen. They even prepared a dinner buffet for the guest the night the hurricane hit - free of charge. After the storm had passed, the power was in no way coming back on anytime soon so the hotel hired cars (not taxis) and transported all the guest to different Marriott properties that still had power – all free of charge. They also made sure our rates were honored at the other hotels. It was a welcome gesture and the staff from the manager to the housekeepers were just great in being positive and helpful through a very bad situation.

Room Tip: Try to avoid any of the rooms ending in 01. Its by far the worse view of them all.

Ron, on behalf of the team, we cannot thank you enough for your kind words on how we handled the hotel during Hurricane Sandy. We are thrilled to hear that you had an enjoyable time in the city, despite the circumstances. We hope to host your next trip in NY real soon, hopefully hurricane free!! Thanks again, Ron.

Stayed for 4 nights recently. Nice rooms, very clean, had everything you can need and was serviced well each day by really pleasant housekeepers, in fact all the staff were great, helpful, and always there to point you in the right direction. Could not fault the staff at all. I enjoyed the hotel but upon returning one evening they had run out of a lot of wines so a night time drink before bed was limited! That was the Friday. On the Saturday evening the bar was in darkness but the front desk staff said they had the keys then they couldn't find them. So couldn't have a glass of something before heading off to bed. Again Sunday evening it was closed again - no mention in the website. A hotel without a bar? Or is it a hotel with a closed bar? Either way that was my only disappointment. There's a wine shop just around the corner...... Overall I'd consider staying again as the location is great for Soho and it was spotlessly clean.

An excellent hotel...... from your first step into the lobby until your last step out of the lobby. The entire hotel team made our trip a very very enjoyable experience. If it’s just about star ratings then continue down Varick to the Trump SoHo but alternatively if it’s a complete experience you want then this hotel is an excellent choice.

All of the front of house team were superb in a city like NYC were friendliness comes a very distant second to just a about everything else the banter and craic we enjoyed with them whether at 8am on your way out for a busy day of sightseeing or at 3am on the way in from a busy night out on the town... they made you feel you were more than just a room number.

It certainly is a great location for visiting Manhattan and further afield. Rooms were on the small side but how much space do you need too sleep and in those beds you'll definitely sleep… very comfortable.

We had 4 adults in a room on the top floor with views of the Statue of Liberty and Freedom Tower.

The Hotel is a great spot if you want to get away from the tourists in Time Square and want to meet with the locals in SoHo and Greenwich Village.

I’d definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely return to it in the near future…

Room Tip: Lifts arent really a problem, traffic busy but the traffic noise aint that sleep effecting

As mentioned before, the size of room is small, but everything in it was very nice. We loved the location and over all feel of the hotel. The staff (not just the front desk, but the maids, maintainance ... everyone we saw) was by far the most helpful, and friendliest we have encountered in a long time. Highly recommend this hotel.. we will for sure stay here on our next trip to nyc.

Small room, bad view, no breakfast, no minibar. Clean, good bed and sheets. Great location. Terrific breakfast just in steps nearby and great dinner in french vine bar Buvette at Groove st. Walking distance to Stomp show. <$10 taxi distance to Central Park. Limousine service to JFK $70 with tips.

Room Tip: for the standard price be prepared to experience the smallest room by Marriott with bad view

We stayed at this Marriott for one night before leaving on a cruise out of Brooklyn. The location was perfect for getting anywhere in Manhattan. The room was clean and had all the usual amenities. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay here again.

Checking into the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Varick Street, SoHo was very efficient and pleasant; the staff were courteous and friendly throughout my stay.
I was on the 4th floor of this 19 story tall, but small hotel in Varick Street, SoHo. Before arriving here and checking out the area I was not looking forward to my stay. I usually stay in Mid-Town near to Grand Central Terminal but tho is where I was booked by my client.
It was really convenient for work as the walk was literally less than 2 minutes.
As the days passed by, I really appreciated being in this part of new York, I really had a good time and had my eyes opened to new and nice things - I'd definitely stay here again.
A short walk in any direction took me to really nice areas for food, shopping or just taking-in New York. It's handy for the Holland tunnel and travel to Newark Airport.
The hotel was very clean, tidy and comfortable. I can heartily recommend this place to stay, sleep and work (free WiFi).
It had all that I needed…
…except for a place to eat. They had a "Brasserie". Now Brasserie means a type of French restaurant with a relaxed, quality setting, which serves single dishes and other meals.
Marriott has clearly redefined the word Brasserie.
It was nothing more than and area to consume Starbucks coffee (thin and weak) and consume crappy, carbohydrate-rich 'food', such as Bagels, Muffins, Croissants and other pastries. Great if you want to get fat and over-dose on sugar. For sugar is what makes you fat (and NOT fat).
Their healthiest offering was Fruit Juice (more sugar-overdoing masquerading as "healthy"), a wrap (fattening white refined carbohydrate) filled with Canadian (sounds promising) Turkey Bacon (groan, more low-fat nonsense).
If you enjoy a breakfast, you're going to have to seek out a diner. I got my ration of fat, protein and vegetables from Jazzy's Diner one block South of the hotel.
Forget dinner; you'll have to find somewhere close by to eat - and there are plenty of great establishments to choose from.
So, apart from the lack of eating at this place, it's a really comfortable and convenient hotel to stay at.

Room Tip: Go outside and find a diner because there's no chance of a decent breakfast here, just Starbucks...
