This was our second stay at the James NYC (I have previously stayed at their Chicago hotel) and it was as welcoming and comfortable as I remember.

The rooms are so comfortable in every sense - size, linen, bathroom etc. We were in a King Guestroom on the 11th floor. The room was immaculately cleaned every morning and turned down every evening. The cleaning staff do a great job.

I must say the free wifi is great, it is a service that ALL hotels should offer for free but for some reason do not. We were welcomed with a box of macaroons which was sweet and yummy chocolates were left with every turn down.

There is no attitude that comes with this stylish hotel which is one of the main reasons why we returned. They seem to have the combination right.

Please do not change James Hotel. Stay grounded, stylish and cool in every way.

Dear Traveling_sales_grl,

I’m so happy that you could stay a second time with us and that you enjoyed both visits. It seems that besides the comfort and cleanliness of rooms, the free wifi, and the turndown chocolates, it was our “Luxury Liberated” experience that stood out to you most. I’m glad that The James fits you so well. Until your next stay at The James.

Warmest Regards,
Jeff Hentze

My wife and I stayed during Christmas week. The rooms are stellar, the employees are very helpful and friendly, the views fo downtown NYC are unparalleled. I have heard of free coffee, but I have NEVER heard of FREE wine in the afternoon in a hotel lobby! The rooftop deck and bar are very hip and the views again, are breathtaking.

Room Tip: Get a south facing (downtown view).

Dear Paul O,

We're glad you found our staff both friendly and helpful, and that you enjoyed the location as well as the décor. Thanks for making mention of the special amenities we serve in The James Club Sky Lobby, such as coffee and pastries in the morning and the wine and cookies that’s served in the evening. We look forward to having you back and giving you another stellar experience.

We prefer boutique hotels and love trying the new offerings in NYC. This vibe is more friendly than others catering to wanabe beautiful people. Nice touches: free wifi, coffee & danish in the morning, wine & cheese at dusk, and fresh cookies in the evenings. The alarm has a docking station for cell phones, comfy bed and captivating city views from our king corner room. The bed doesn't reach the headboard so the soft down pillows seep down in the crevice - a bolster would fix that. The engineer couldn't fix the bathroom floor heater, which would have been welcome as the room seems to lack its own heat source. Love the rain shower (unless you want to keep your hair dry...where are the shower caps?!) and the "green" containers for shampoo and conditioner. No wasteful bottles. Art displays throughout the floors were well chosen and add to the unique decor. Nearby shops can fill just about any fantasy you seek and beat same old same old on 5th Ave. Our lunch at David Burke's restaurant located on the lower level was excellent - comfort food expertly crafted with whimsy. The bar scene is lively and noise carries so if you are the sensitive sort, ask for a quiet room but even so, with all the glass and 2nd floor plus rooftop action, not sure if this is realistic in nice weather. PS. Why didn't the interior designer install drapes that could be controlled with a remote?

Room Tip: ask for quiet room

Dear Mary CFP,

With a great deal of other hotels out there, thank you for picking The James. I’m happy that our relaxed or Luxury Liberated atmosphere was something that you found appealing. You made such wonderful comments about the amenities, services, and décor of our hotel. Such as our wifi, The James Sky Club amenities, room features (shower, and comfy bed), and the art displays. I’m sorry that you had issues with the bathroom’s floor heater. We will definitely make sure that is not an issue for you during your next visit.

Thank you,
Jeff Hentze

My husband and I chose the James Hotel for an anniversary getaway in NYC. We had previously stayed at the James in Chicago and thought it was great. It was a perfect stay. The hotel is very chic, filled with interesting art. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially Amy, the adorable desk attendant. When they heard it was our anniversary, they upgraded us to a higher floor with a beautiful sunny view all the way to the Hudson River. The room was cozy and very modern and high tech. Extremely clean as well. Brunch in the attached David Burke restaurant was delicious. I would definitely come back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a west facing view.

Dear Katzenstein,

Thank you for choosing The James as your anniversary getaway. It means a lot that you allowed us to help you celebrate such a special occasion. I also really appreciate you mentioning one of our team members by name. I know how thrilled Amy was at the recognition. Hopefully we’ll see you on your next anniversary.

This was my first time to stay in Lower Manhattan and we loved it. This is a very hip hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. It is in a great part of town and away from all the hustle and bustle. Great shopping and restaurants in the area that are easy to walk to and the hotel is very accessible to the subway--so museums, Time Square, and Central Park are an easy train ride. The breakfast room service and food was fantastic--a definite must to enjoy the views of Lower Manhattan from the comfort of your room. We stayed in a corner King Suite--it was so nice to have lots of windows in the room to enjoy skyline views. The beds are very comfortable and they have various choices of pillows!!! One of our favorite things was the heated floor in the bathroom and the huge rainshower--we definitely felt spoiled. The rooms are very clean with great amenities and you will love the chocolates they put in your room for 'turn down' service. This was a great find and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We had a corner room that faced lower Manhattan--great view of the new Freedom Tower.

Dear Stephanie J,

I’m happy to hear that we could be your escape from all hustle and bustle. It’s so convenient being in Soho, in such close proximity to wonderful shops and restaurants, and as you mentioned very near the subway. Thank you for your kind words about our room service, the views of the city, not to mention the layout of our guestrooms. Hope to see you back soon.

Sincerely,

Loved The James Hotel!

The concierge was fabulous and the vibe was young, cool and ultra hip. Superb suggestions on places to go, things to see and directions on how to get there.

Great decor in the lobby, bars and rooms. The Jimmy (upstairs bar) was great and the rooftop pool while small had plenty of room. Definitely a 'pretty people' place.

LOVED the decor of the room and the lobby. The bathroom was gorgeous with glass walls that had automated curtains to allow privacy (or not). Soaps and toiletries were great quality - I ordered some online after I got home.

The uniforms were sassy and fun and *so* Soho! New Macs in the lobby allowed for browsing or checking in for flights. Room service was delightful (and available late night) from David Burke's kitchen-and, not a truffle fry was left behind. The Treehouse was packed at night and looked like 'the' place to hang out. Not to be left out - super comfy bed - I even called to find out if they had a brand mattress like some places do that could be purchased.

Location was phenom! An easy walk to Cipriani's for bellinis, Balthazar for delightful brunch and a perfect home base for Soho shopping. I think I'll try the one in Chicago after such a pleasant experience in Soho!

Room Tip: Definitely get a corner suite if you can. The floor to ceiling glass gives such a spacious feel and...
