“Surprisingly nice hotel on Canal Street”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

I was a little skeptical at first about staying in this hotel because it is right on Canal Street, which is so busy. There are so many hotels in cute neighborhoods that I thought I would not like the hotel, but I was wrong. The hotel is centrally located and really nice inside. The lounge area is very comfortable. We did not eat at the hotel, but the restaurant looked very busy. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating - Eddie and Dave to name a few. If you want a great location near Soho and Tribeca, this is a great hotel and it is reasonably priced.

Stayed here for a girl's weekend in NYC with my college-aged daughter. Great location and value with Hotwire.com Near three subway stations within minutes ride to Midtown, Times Square, and upper areas. Few minutes walk to Tribeca amenities, Little Italy, China Town, SOHO, & a short taxi (or subway) to the Villages. The Hotel is located right on Canal St. and very safe - good, discrete security. If you are from the Midwest, on your first visit to the city, Canal St. may freak you out - breathe through it slowly - everything will be okay, most likely. :)

Upside: Consistency of a chain - Sheraton but still Tribeca feel, nicely decorated lobby & lobby bar, good restaurant for breakfast, and good Starbucks - no crowds or traffic flow issues in common areas. Check-in was quick and courteous, room was "Euro" in size but new, clean, comfortable, quiet, nicely furnished, well maintained, with a walk-in closet, good amenities, good bathroom, and a reasonable floor level and view. Good elevators (3) even during peak time. Staff greeted us when we enter and bid us good bay when we exited each time. Housekeeper was pleasant, helpful, and discrete. Food service staff were very good.

Downside: One elevator had a key card/security issue. Possibly related to third party booking with advance purchase - the hotel required check-in each day of our stay because due to added nights - they were not capable of linking the reservations to avoid the inconvenience. On checkout, we discovered the hotel had triple charged the CC for the deposit - on arrival, on the second day, and on the day of checkout. The desk clerk was unable to find the charges on our folio, unable resolve it, and then loudly announced two separate times that we should take it up with Priceline - an excellent suggestion had we booked through Priceline and if Priceline had charged the three deposits but, alas, they had not. The antics were unprofessional. We patiently and courteously explained each time that we'd booked and paid in advance through Hotwire.com and showed the account charges for each of the three days made by Sheraton, but to no avail. A few days after returning home the charges were reversed, but the handling and the mistake were unnecessary and unacceptable.

I write this on my phone as I sit at their Link, which is complete with computers that lock-up when attempting to search google and that are covered in dust and stray hair. I am confused by the recent reviews that say it's a new hotel, it doesn't seem new to me. As I write, I see more and more hair, which reminds me of my bathroom, they actually have a stainless tray covering the drain, needless to say I regret trying to reattach it. Everywhere I look everything here is dirty and worn. The windows open in the room, but only a few inches, which alas weren't enough to cool my room as the ac wasn't working, I assume due to a 2 pipe HVAC system? The Starbucks server wasn't overly friendly, and despite milk in the cooler directly behind him, he refused to put milk in my coffee, instead instructed me to the self-service station on the left. I admit the rest of the employees have been friendly quick and helpful, the location extremely convenient, and the cable channels extensive, but that's not enough to make up for the dirty, well beaten accommodations.

This is a new property in an unambiguously urban setting. Canal street is busy and crappy (don't really know how to describe the industry here -- lot of fake purses, light bulb stores), but it's just uptown of TriBeCa, and just downtown of the West Village, so there is plenty of great stuff really close by.

You're just a few blocks away from the west side highway, where there is a great bike path for running, or, gasp, biking.

The hotel itself features smaller rooms which are super quiet with great beds -- really the best you could hope for in New York. There is a bar and a restaurant and a hidden starbucks in the lobby -- I'd normally recommend against the hotel bar in New York, but it would be a few blocks until you found something nice, and the bar always seemed full.

Staff was mixed -- all super nice, some felt a little newer to their careers.

All in all, I'd stay again and recommend to friends; the only downside is the location, but as it's close to a lot of cooler places, that's not much of a detriment.

Room Tip: Don't stress -- I was on the second floor and it was dead quiet.

Right on Canal Street, the Sheraton Tribeca is a clean, safe choice for NYC downtown. All of the standard Sheraton services to be expected. Very clean rooms with an attentive staff. Nice bar area in the lobby as well as a snack bar and decent restaurant. The only downside is that the traffic on Canal street can make hailing a cab pretty tough. The doormen are very helpful in any case and will run down the street to try and get you one.
Rooms with an up town view are very nice with the Empire State building front and center. This hotel is highly recommended and you will be pleased with your stay for the value.

Enjoy.

Room Tip: Room 1119 has a great view!

OK, this is a quite nice Hotel, not too much amenities but great location. If your looking for Gym, Restaurant and stuff you won't find it here but if your looking for comfort and the most strategy location in the big Apple this is your choice!!!
We where there with friends, last march and it results in the best possible choice we could ever make. Subway station right in the corner ready for going downtown or uptown or if you prefer walking distance from soho, Chinese Town or Little Italy (every day is gettin littler)
Great price but 4 people's rooms it's kind of tight, all in all great choice for walking around in Manhattan.
