“NO PRESSING PROBLEMS”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

This was our second stay; the first last March just before the hotel changed its name from The Setai, and the standard is as good as before. Our suite was spacious and well equipped with a full working kitchen, a washing machine and dryer hidden behind cupboard doors, a super-king sized bed, and an oversized marble bathroom. The large picture windows gave a skyscraper view across to the distant East River. There is a complimentary shoe shine service, and the turndown service is automatic (unlike some other 5* hotels, where you have to request it). Staff are friendly and accommodating. One tip - the rate for a suite includes free pressing of up to 5 items - but only on the day of arrival. We gave housekeeping only 2 items the day after we arrived, and were charged $30. The hotel generously rebated the charge. I suggest the hotel removes this timing restriction which is irritating to guests and has no cost implications to them.

We arrived at the Langham Place with 15 minutes to spare before our dinner reservation at a restaurant 30 blocks away. The efficient staff was able to check us in (free room upgrade) and get us a taxi in time to meet our friends for dinner. When we returned our luggage was in our room.
The room was spacious for a New York City hotel. Except for the occasional ambulance siren, the room was quiet even though it was on the 5th floor (limited view of Empire State Building was visible over building on 36 St.). The room is nicely furnished with dark walnut panelling and off-white carpeting (which will need a lot of care to stay clean in the winter), a nespresso machine, free soft drinks, an umbrella, an iron and ironing board, and a shoe horn. The bathroom was large with separate deep tub and glass enclosed shower. Internet was free, but required daily log in. I did not think the connection was slow as has been mentioned in other reviews.
One day we did not leave our room until 8 pm. When we came back from dinner our room had been made up without even having to call. I was impressed that housekeeping keeps track all day of which rooms have been serviced and which have not.
The doormen greeted us on each return to the hotel and offered to get us a cab whenever we departed. When time came for check out we hated to leave.

Despite that it had changed owner and name, the hotels continue to be one of the best New York’s hotels.
Location is excellent. Staff is near perfect, polite and attentive. All of them.
Rooms are large, well decorated. Mini bar is free. Free internet is only fair, you need to pay for best speed. Some rooms have complete kitchen.
Continental breakfast, that is included in some rates, is very good, with a varied cold selection.
If you stay in one suite, you have a car for short ride.
Ai Fiore restaurant have very good Italian food and in Measure Lounge have a happy hour with live jazz.
Spa is big and have hair stylist.

Stayed at Langham Place for 12 days in a Suite on the 23rd floor. Always clean, Spacious, Very comfortable. No noise. All staff from housekeeping to concierge very very kind, always. immediate response to any need. Discretion and respect. Large bathroom behind the bedroom unfortunately with neon lights, but an engineer disconnected the lamps in no time and placed a small side lamp on the vanity unit. Maybe it doesn't have that twist of personality, that special thing that make you say WOW, but it is Impeccable.

Stayed at the Langham for 7 nights in early January. The room itself was huge, not overly luxurious but classy and functional. The bed was very comfortable, perfect after a long day walking. The bathroom was large and modern with all the amenities you could want. Staff were welcoming and very friendly. I had a Premier Place room on the 5th floor overlooking 5th avenue which was amazing quiet for the low level. My only negatives were the room itself was overly dark and on one of the days my bedding sheet had 2 large obvious tears in it and was obviously not in the best condition. (Totally unacceptable for a 5 star hotel )

We spent three nights in an Empire Studio during January. The big plus about this property, and the reason we chose it, was the room size as compared with the likes of the four seasons or mandarin. Our room had a great walk in dressing area - lots of storage - and a fantastic large bath and bathroom. The free wifi, morning paper and free soft drinks are also appreciated. I felt the hotel represented decent value compared with other posh hotels in NY.I think the only downside really was a lack of wow factor in the building generally - the lounge and restaurants were on the lower floors and looked a bit underwhelming. If you chose say the four seasons you would have a smaller room, and probably fewer or no freebies, but you will have a much more appealing set of public areas and an extra edge in service. On balance, we were happy with our choice though.

My partner and I were here for a weekend to take in the shows and eat our faces off at as many places as we could. From the moment we checked in to the last minutes that we left, everyone at this hotel were wonderful. The bellmen were helpful and friendly, the front desk was super efficient and housekeeping did everything they could to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible.

The hotel offers lots of comps - free bottled water, free mini-bar pop, free shoe shines etc. and everything was clean and spotless everyday of our trip. The Room Service food here is better than most hotels, but if you want other stuff to eat the location is convenient enough to walk a couple of blocks to get whatever it is you fancy.

We were celebrating a few things and Melissa at the front desk sent us a delicious chocolate cake that really made us feel welcome during our stay. One of the things we were celebrating was our engagement so it looks like we'll be coming back here to stay for anniversaries as well and really, we couldn't be happier! We would recommend (and already have recommended) this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Our room was facing Fifth Avenue - so we got a good view of the comings and goings on the street, an...
