“Good hotel, but beware of reservations system glitches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

I made a reservation on Thursday, May 16th on the hotel's website. I never received a confirmation email. I called the hotel yesterday before heading to New York to confirm. No one answered reservations so I left a message. No call back. I later tried again to be told that their system was down and they would look at it right away once back up and running and confirm via email. No email. I called again later and got their central reservations number who confirmed my reservation.

Upon arrival at 4 PM they had no room for me. They explained that rooms are currently blocked manually as they are in system transition. They located a Langham Suite (which is what I booked) for me after about 10 minutes and apologized. Upon entering the room, we found it already occupied with someone else's luggage..another trip to the frontdesk and another wait and we were upgraded to a residence suite.

Staff is friendly and seemed genuinely sorry for the mix-up. The room itself was gorgeous, but had only a few sodas in the fridge. No alcohol or snacks. Restaurant has a small continental buffet for breakfast and a nice bar for evenings which we did not go to as we spent the evening out.

Overall a nice hotel in a great location and worth a visit, but triple check your reservation and call the hotel directly to make sure they've physically blocked a room for you. Also note that it's a little too far from the theater district to be convenient for that activity.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room so the traffic noise from 5th Avenue doesn't bother you.

The Langham is a very good hotel, worthy of the many accolades in the previous reviews. The hotel is modern, well kept, and clean. The rooms are quite large by NYC standards, with a full modern bathroom. The bed was one of the best, it was extremely comfortable and I got a great nights sleep. The room even came with a refrigerator full of free water and soft drinks. Wifi was free as well, just ask for the code when you check in. The staff here are really what makes the difference, they are excellent. To the front desk staff to the doorman, they can't do enough for you. The sitting areas and bar are great to unwind in. Location of the hotel is convenient, right near Herald Square and major subway lines. Overall a very nice stay.

Opened in 2010 as the Setai Hotel, this five-star property in Midtown has been acquired by the Langham Hospitality Group and now is known as the Langham Place. It is deserving of all of the accolades guests continually shower upon it.

The exceptional nature of the Langham Place is evident from the moment you arrive. The emphasis here is on cheerful, knowledgeable and accommodating service.

The immaculate rooms are spacious, well-appointed and spotlessly clean. The windows open so you can enjoy “fresh air.” Free Wi-Fi is provided and the newspapers of your choice are delivered each morning. The rooms are equipped with a mini-bar that is stocked every day with complimentary non-alcoholic beverages. There’s also a Nespresso coffee machine in each room.

The bathrooms are spacious and include a glass-enclosed rain shower and separate deep soaking tub. A nice touch is the television that is embedded in the expansive mirror. It is detectable only when turned on.

At night, the hotel provides a turn-down service, with housekeeping leaving freshly baked cookies for guests to enjoy before retiring.

The rooms feature Duxiana beds which are luxurious and comfortable but their construction is such that the bottom sheet can easily pull out from under the mattress so you can wake up to find yourself lying partly on a bare mattress.

Room keys (cards) are lacking in instructions for their use. To get to your floor in the elevator or to enter your room, you must hold the card against a plate (sensibly located) until the small red LED light switches to green.

There is a friendly and lively bar on the ground floor that looks out onto Firth Avenue, with floor to ceiling windows. During the afternoon, you can sit near the windows and watch the parade of trendy New Yorkers pass by or, in the evening, listen to live jazz music.

The critically acclaimed Ai Fiori Restaurant offers a prix fixe dinner for $92 (at least it did at the time of my visit). While the offerings are delightful, do try the multi-grain bread. It is from Pain D'Avignon in Long Island City and it is sure to be one of the most satisfying breads you’ve ever tasted.

The hotel has no set check out time. If it would be convenient to stay in your room after 12 noon, the staff will do everything possible to accommodate you.

The Langham Place is a superlative five-star hotel. It has an elegant and welcoming ambiance, and the service is exceptional—without exception. Once you stay at the Langham Place, it is bound to be your favorite hotel in NYC.

My best friend and I went for a birthday weekend and had a great time. The staff at the hotel was excellent! Always calling us by name and asking if everything was to our liking. They were helpful in suggesting places to eat and ways to get around the city. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: We had the Empire Suite and it was fantastic! Great view of the Empire State building.

We have our greatest moment in NYC at the former Setai / newly Langham hotel, for my wife 40th birthday. She loves the city and especially the Chrysler building, and was not expecting the stay she was to about to live.

Thanks to Ken's advice, I booked a city 01 Suite which definitely has the best view on the Chrysler and 5th Avenue. Having my habits in NYC, the Setai/Langham has definitely the biggest room for the money you are paying. Of course it is not cheap at all, but it is really worth the value. The service is impeccable from the receptionist, to the bell boy, to the housekeeping, and a special thanks to Ken who was available at anytime to fulfill our wishes. I just regret to have missed the complementary hotel's Quattroporte Maserati, which was "broken", replaced by brand new SUV.

My wife and I slept wonderfully in our king size bed within very high quality linen and mattress. You could slightly hear the whistle of the elevator, but was not disturbing for us at all. The living room is huge and well elegantly decorated like the rest of the suite if you like dark wooden sober style. The bar kitchen is filled with complementary drinks every day as well as the Nespresso machine. What Else!

The SPA is disappointing, especially the Aqua Lounge. The team is great, but the location is quite standard; it is more looking like a condo fitness/sauna lounge. However, without any surcharge, you can have the cheapest 5* hotel massage in a couple room in Manhattan.

We really like the concept of no check-in/no check-out. They tell you upon arrival, depending on your constraints and theirs, at what time you can leave the room upon departure. Since we were having a late night flight, the hotel let us keep the room until 4PM.

Overall we loved the place and definitely will return to the Setai, oops not... the Langham now since Tuesday 7th of May! I hope the new management will not change anything to the perfect service. Anyway I will check on tripadvisor!

Thank you Ken and thank you to the all Setai team who were all aware of this special event and made everything possible to make our stay at the Setai perfect.

See you soon (with our Kids next time)! :-))))))))

Room Tip: City 01 Suites (2401, 2501, 2601, 2701) have the best view on the Chrysler building, though you will...

this was like staying in a resort in the city, beautiful spa, rooms were immaculate, service was impeccable, rooms are large and comfortable and actually represent a good value relative to some of the "shoebox" sized rooms ive stayed in at other properties...can go wrong with the Setai

This is a very classy hotel amidst a preponderance of good hotels in NYC. Nothing is left to chance from the check in to the check out. Although it is not inexpensive there are many included perks such as beverages, WiFi, newspaper, Nespresso machine and refilled coffee, etc. The assigned Personal Assistant is like your personal concierge and is most appreciated for reservations, etc.
The complementary hotel car is another major perk but is not always available on a first come first served basis.
Our room was a studio facing 5th Ave. The sun lit up our room accentuating the beautiful wood floor and cabinets along with the cream colored wool rug.
The bed was very comfortable.
The General Manager, Msr. Francois-Luiggi sets the tone of he whole hotel. Friendliness and efficiency without the sense of rush or inconvenience displayed by staff.
We definitely will return and will tell all of our friends.
