My family stayed at the Andaz 5th Avenue for a weekend of NYC site seeing. We had 3 ppl - myself, my husband and our 12 year old daughter. The location of this hotel is unbeatable - we could walk to Rockefeller Center, Broadway, Bryant Park etc...
Check in was a breeze and the hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. We had a room with "2 double beds" - this was the only downside of the hotel - the double beds are closer to large twins. Keep this in mind if you are planning to fit more than 2 ppl in the room. We had a great view of the NYE ball and the Library... so we made the 2 beds work. The rest of the room is fabulous. Its not your standard Hyatt hotel room -- high ceilings make it feel larger and the bathroom is luxurious! The complimentary snacks, water, coffee/wine (in lobby) is just an added bonus.
We had room service dessert one night - it was expensive but to be expected and the treats were delicious so we were satisfied. We met friends at the hotel bar for drinks and appetizers before a Broadway show - we had a delicious cheese plate and wine. There is not much available to eat in the late afternoon - just an FYI. You are in NYC so your options are endless within a few blocks.
All in all, we loved the hotel and plan to go back if we visit NYC again!
