We returned to the Andaz during the weekend of Hurricane Irene and the staff could not have been more accomodating with us. Even with limited staff and services, restaurant and housekeeping services were excellent.
Our only advice is better climate control in the rooms. The room was very warm at night.
Nevertheless, we would rate the stay as very good and we'll be back.

The andaz is relatively new (so much that our taxi struggled to find it!), it inhabits the old Hilfiger HQ on 5th Avenue. A great location-opposite the New York Library and 5 min from Times Square, Grand Central station and very close to the Rockerfeller and Chrysler buildings.
The staff were really friendly at all times and very efficient. We had bought a discounted suite on hotels.com and when we arrived were upgraded to a large suite which was great. The room offered a full size fridge, stocked daily with a range of cold drinks-all non alcoholic drinks were complimentary as were crisps and choc which was a great touch. The living area was comfortable and roomy, and the bedroom was also big for a NY hotel. The shower was good however I did miss having a bath. Instead it offered a seperate foot bath/shower which came in very handy after all the walking!
The view from the 13th floor wasnt great (all office buildings) however it came with blackout blinds for the evening.
The hotel also offers free wine in the communal area from 6-9 each night, and laptops with free wifi for use-this allowed us to check in to our flight in comfort.
The downstairs bar was also very nice.
My only 2 issues were a) the light switches were all controlled by one panel and it was a little oversensitive and complicated! b) the a/c was very loud at night-i mean VERY loud.
All in all, no serious issues and a lovely, clean room.

I have stayed at this hotel many times since my initial visit and have found the standard of service has declined significantly in that time. When the hotel first opened one could be forgiving of the somewhat young and inexperienced front office staff but by now it's getting tiresome. Our most recent stay had errors with the type of room we had confirmed even though we had reached out days before to reconfirm. Staff are arrogant and unhelpful when trying to resolve issues. The hotel needs to step back and think a little about how it handles it's customers. It has a good model, with nice rooms in a great location, but it is shooting itself in the foot with it's service

I had the best stay at this hotel.

The service was great. Even though check in was not until 2pm we arrived at 10ish am and were checked in and shown to our room right away.

Every single staff member we came across smiled at us, gave us a friendly greeting and were happy to help in anyway possible. The service was always great from the moment we walked in to when we left the hotel.

Rooms were amazing! Nice and comfortable beds. The rooms were really nice, big, modern and clean. There was a rain shower which was amazing!! The shower however had no privacy as the bathroom area does not have a door - but the toilet area does. The hotel also offers a complimentary mini bar (excluding aloholic drinks) which was a plus.

The hotel exterior and interior were really nice. Very modern and everything is clean.

We had room service a couple of times and the food was delicious! The delivery was also prompt and the person delivering it was once again very friendly. With my breakfast i even received a free paper which was in a cute tote style bag.

Location was great. Lots of shops and restaurants/cafes outside and also street food. There's Bryant park (famous for fashion shows) across the road. Times square, empire state building, theater district, Rockefeller center and grand central station were easily walk-able within minutes. And even closer walking distance is the famed 5th avenue shopping.

Other facilities that the hotel offers are gym, dry cleaning and laundry service, valet parking, business services, currency exchange and complimentary safe deposit boxes. There's also a bar and and a restaurant.

Just need to remember that it is a boutique style hotel so can't expect it to have everything but you can expect really good value for money, stunning hotel and great service.

I would definately recommend staying at this hotel if you are looking for somewhere nice and reasonable in price in NY.

This is my favorite Andaz. I've stayed at Andaz Wall Street and Andaz West Hollywood, and Andaz 5th is the nicest. The rooms are really modern & luxuriously appointed. The location is so convenient too! It's right across the street from the NY public library & park and close to Grand Central Station.
Staying at Andaz 5th is like staying in an expensive upper east side apartment.
It really feels like home away from home.
If you don't like the traditional hustle and bustle of a chain hotel, this hotel is for you!
Love the free drinks & snacks in the rooms. They refresh it every day too.
Restaurant downstairs was also good.
It's so refreshing to come back from a long day of work, and when you walk in the lobby, their friendly staff always ask if you wanted some wine or drinks. Yes, it's complimentary.
Nice touches like this is so hard to find in hotels these days. It makes you feel you have your own private concierge at your beck and call.
I usually stay in a suite here and they even have a kitchenette in the suite! Oh, they also have Nespresso machines in the suites! YAY!!!
Yes, it's a bit pricey, but if you value a pampered experience, you'll love it here.
I come back to the hotel twice a year for market, and always look forward to it.
