We were please to arrive at the nicely appointed Petrarca for a Saturday night out. The high point was walking in. From that point it was downhill. Pre-cooked appetizers submerged in a tasteless tomato sauce, dreadful dry lasagna with little or no bechamel, fruit in zabaglione that had virtually no marsala! Pizza not edible! Completely unacceptable for even a mediocre Italian restaurant.

Maybe it was just a bad night, but customers pay the same for a bad night as for a good one.

A polite and helpful staff couldn't overcome the failings of the kitchen.

This place looked good and the reviews were good, so we gave it a try. First of all, the tables are so close together that the waiters bumped into me at least a dozen times as they walked by. When water was filled, the server leaned physically on me. I could deal with that if the food was ok. The pizza was very small but tasty. My chicken park was quite bad. It was oily and the oil tasted rancid. The pasta was strange tasting. My wife's pasta was fair.
Overall, I would not return to this place - it was an uncomfortable evening with crappy food. There are 20,000 restaurants in Manhattan...try those first.

On our way to a little theatre across the street (Flea), stopped for a glass of wine. Two of us sat at at the bar and sipped while tasting an appetizer... Was good enough for us to recommend returning with a large group after the show... Service was fabulous, food and wine also wonderful. Would easily return if in the neighborhood.

This was our first night in New York and after a stroll around the Financial district we fell upon this place. It was very busy but they were able to squeeze us in. An extensive (and expensive) wine list - we opted for a very good Chilean wine which complement the rich main courses very well. Very salty sauces though. The waiters were obviously clamouring for the service charge which explains a lot. But overall a pleasant experience and I would make a repeat visit.

We are fortunate to have such a consistently excellent restaurant a block away from our home. The food is excellent without being fussy, the service is extremely friendly and the wine list is extensive but manageable. Petrarca is very well run and we've never been disappointed.

TIP: Grab a seat near the large windows for people watching or a seat at the bar so you may engage with the excellent bar staff.
