This is a refreshing change of pace for taking a tour in NYC. The tours last about 2 hours and visit about 15 theaters near Broadway from 42nd Street to 45th Street. All tour “stops” are outside the theaters (to accommodate union rules) and contain laptop photos of the theater depicting the history of the site. Our tour guide was a professionally trained stage manager who has toured nationally and was able to answer all our questions. The tours start on 41st Street (where Newsies is playing) about a half block from the 42nd Street Station on the A-C-E subway line. Exit the subway thru the Port Authority Bus Terminal east entrance at 8th Ave. The tours are scheduled only when potential customers send an email and provide the tour owner with one or more times that would work for them. You will get back a prompt email. Tours are cash only.

My wife and I took this tour on a recent visit to New York with our 2 boys, ages 12 and 15. We all agree that it was one of the highlights of our vacation. The tour lasted for about 2 hours, which seemed to fly by. Tim, our guide, was very engaging and incredibly knowledgeable. When we planned our trip to New York, we were all interested in going to a Broadway show--and we enjoyed our New York theater experience all the more because of what we learned about its history and culture from this tour.

We didn't actually get to go into any of the theaters, but Tim was able to show us some very cool pictures on his tablet: of the interiors, as well as some historical views of many of the facades. He'd obviously done some considerable research and really knew his stuff.

We also had a chance to pick his brain about the best shows now playing, the best way to get tickets, and even places to eat in the area.

This is a great tour for any tourist interested in Broadway, and I'll bet that even the seasoned New Yorker would learn a thing or two.

We have enjyed this tour around the Boradway theaters! The guide, Tim, was extremely informend about the histoy of the theaters. The heatpads, which he gave around, were especially helpful in the cold winter.

We loved our walking tour of Broadway up Close. The tour was full of interesting tid bits of information that were fun to learn. I am a theater junkie and a wannabe so it was perfect for me and my daughter...The weather plays a role in the tour so I was glad I dressed warm.. Would recommend to anyone... maybe not toddlers or little ones :)
