We took the Greenwich Village Tour last Saturday which was very good. Courtney our guide was excellent - very professional and knowledgeable. We both experienced the food of the area as well as the history and some little known facts - very interesting overall. It was a gloriously sunny day too which helped. My favourite bit was the visit to Artichoke Pizza - I would say it was the nicest pizza I have ever tasted. I thought it a little strange though that after eating falafel, rice balls and a seriously rich pizza - the final stop was more pizza. We decided enough was enough at that stage. Courtney pointed out some dessert restaurants where we could go alone if we wanted to skip the last pizza stop. We did this and finished the tour ourselves with a visit to Mollys Cupcakes. Sublime. While this tour was free - Courtney explained that this was her livelihood and career - not a hobby or interest - which was a good point. We paid her for her experise and knowledge plus tip - like we did for other services we used in the city during our visit.

There was a slight 'dampener' put on the tour in the shape of 2 children - aged approx 10 years who felt the need to 'take over' the entire tour. Their Fathers were quite amused at the way these boys behaved. Courtney was quite good at handling the situation but I felt her patience was running out with them towards the end. I wont go into too much detail but in Artichoke the 2 kids messed up the ordering system so much that Courtney was asked to pay for for the pizza they double ordered and didnt pay for - ignoring the system she had explained to us. I realise all this was the Parents responsibility and nothing at all to do with Free Tours by Foot but maybe an age limit should be put on the tours.

Went on a tour of the financial district with Renee. It was a really really cold morning but she tried her best to keep us moving/huddled/in the sunshine! She really knew her stuff and we were very impressed with all the knowledge she had about the area. Learnt a lot of interesting facts and we would definitely book one of these tours again. She was also very appreciative when we gave her tips at the end. Loved her accent too!

We really enjoyed this walking tour with Courteney. The various food stops were all delicious and amazingly cheap (although we somehow managed to spend $40 in the chinese candy store - tip: don't let your teenagers have their own bags unsupervised!). The walk was well paced and interesting, with a nice bit bit of historical context thrown in (although it's predominantly about the food). Highly recommended.

We read about Greenwich Village before we made our visit, but there is no better way to really learn about the people who lived in the Village, and the places where they stayed, than to go on a free walking tour with Renee. With her authentic 'accent' and 'New York' demeanor, Renee takes you to many of the interesting streets of Greenwich Village, and tells you about a host of other spots that you will want to visit later. We learned about Arthur's Tavern, one of the oldest jazz clubs, and enjoyed a good dose of Dixieland Jazz on a subsequent evening. It was really fun to see the homes of so many familiar TV characters and famous writers. This is the best way to make your visit to Greenwich Village meaningful and memorable. There is no fixed charge for the tour, you pay what you feel it is worth at the end.

I do recommend. Great hosts and tour guide. Be prepared to walk or have scooter if someone in your party has health conditions.
