We took the Greenwich Village Tour last Saturday which was very good. Courtney our guide was excellent - very professional and knowledgeable. We both experienced the food of the area as well as the history and some little known facts - very interesting overall. It was a gloriously sunny day too which helped. My favourite bit was the visit to Artichoke Pizza - I would say it was the nicest pizza I have ever tasted. I thought it a little strange though that after eating falafel, rice balls and a seriously rich pizza - the final stop was more pizza. We decided enough was enough at that stage. Courtney pointed out some dessert restaurants where we could go alone if we wanted to skip the last pizza stop. We did this and finished the tour ourselves with a visit to Mollys Cupcakes. Sublime. While this tour was free - Courtney explained that this was her livelihood and career - not a hobby or interest - which was a good point. We paid her for her experise and knowledge plus tip - like we did for other services we used in the city during our visit.
There was a slight 'dampener' put on the tour in the shape of 2 children - aged approx 10 years who felt the need to 'take over' the entire tour. Their Fathers were quite amused at the way these boys behaved. Courtney was quite good at handling the situation but I felt her patience was running out with them towards the end. I wont go into too much detail but in Artichoke the 2 kids messed up the ordering system so much that Courtney was asked to pay for for the pizza they double ordered and didnt pay for - ignoring the system she had explained to us. I realise all this was the Parents responsibility and nothing at all to do with Free Tours by Foot but maybe an age limit should be put on the tours.
