Forget the out-dated concept that Harlem is a dangerous and unforgiving area of NYC. Nothing could be further form the truth. The area is up and coming and full of life. Indeed, many savvy New Yorkers are moving into the area. The Apartment was spotlessly clean and had every amenity. It took a couple of minutes to walk to the subway and the express trains whisked us to Times Square in less than ten minutes. Bernado Zozaya and his charmig wife were the very pattern of courtesy, full of information and could not have been more helpful. I am a regular vsiitor to the USA for work purposes and I will always endeavour to stay at San Fermin in the future. Seriously reccomended.

Room Tip: We saw a couple of the other apartments, which were equally charming.

Having been to NYC quite a few times, we now look for a more "local" experience when it comes to lodging other than the typical touristic hotels of say, Times Square. Well, we found such a place with San Fermin, and after having read previous positive reviews, we decided to go with it, and were quite happy with it. The apartments are European in nature- meaning, for example- don't forget to bring your own washcloth- if you need one. The inn is located in a nicely renovated vintage townhouse, and our studio on the 2nd floor was tastefully decorated, very clean, lots of space. Morning coffee and other beverages are provided in the kitchenette, but not breakfast, which is a good thing, and leaves one to decide which one of the thousands of cool breakfast or brunch places should be checked out today. Also, the value, for what you get out of the price of the apartments is unbeatable for NYC. If you don't mind the slightly longer ride on the subway to get to some of the attractions toward Lower Manhattan, this is the place. An express train is available- so take it rather than the "local" or milk-stop train. The subway is just a few minutes walk away, along with travelers' needs such as a drugstore etc.

Bernardo was a great host, from check-in to check-out, and had tips on what to take in- for both the first timer to NYC and the more seasoned traveler. At the end of our stay, he took our picture in front of the inn and sent it to us. A nice touch and definite addition to our travel slideshows.

Would definitely stay again!

As a first-time visitor to NYC, we were truly lucky to find such a place to spend our nights in the city, and it clearly proves all the great previous comments shown below genuine but not over-exaggerated.

If you do not like to be constantly bombarded by the city’s highlife, unprecedented crowdedness, and fast-pace living style but still want to be in the vicinity of it, it’s the right spot you should consider. It’s just 5-10 minutes walk away from the 145th station, and once you get off the station, you can immediately experience totally different and laidback atmosphere in Harlem, a very good way to begin and end your daily trip.

You might have the thought that a place with great location must be expensive, especially it is in Manhattan, but actually it is price-friendly. It is not going to be an issue that takes your time to decide, and it would be pretty difficult for you to find a place with equivalent expense in Midtown. In fact, we had to spend a night living in other place, and although it is located in the center of the city, its price is nearly doubled compared to San Fermin B&B. Travelers with tight budget but still pray for something with quality will find San Fermin B&B a paradise. The saying “You cannot sell the cow and drink the milk.” is not applicable here.

The last thing is the soul of this place--its host, Bernardo. It is him that makes San Fermin B&B a gem. During our stay, he would always wait for us in his office located in the first floor. We still miss his warm greetings “Did you sleep well yesterday?”, and he would also ask our daily itinerary and then provide us with great advice such as places we should see or eateries locals usually have their meal. Moreover, he would give what he had to make our trip a breeze, like lending us the member card for the supermarket or the bike (we did not use it though.). It is rare to feel like being at home while traveling, but Bernardo really has done a superb job in this. You will not be treated like an outsider here and the only thing difficult is leaving this place and saying goodbye to him.

Thanks to the help we received and the comments provided in tripadvisor, we were able to find such a great place to live in the city we have been dreaming of. Had it not been San Fermin B&B, we would not have been able to fully enjoy the exciting life and have a pleasant trip here. Are you still looking for the place to stay in the city? Your search should end right here!

We found San Fermin B&B after reading all the positive reviews on tripadvisor and decided to book the apartment for our family of five for our holiday in July. And we were not disappointed. All those previous positive reviews are 100% correct. As soon as we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the owner Bernardo. He could not have been more helpful and informative. The apartment is spotlessly clean and lovely. There was a heatwave during our stay but the apartment had both AC and ceiling fans to keep us cool. The subway is only around the corner. We bought an unlimited 7-day metro pass for $30 each and it was fantastic value as we used the subway all the time. Brilliant transport system in NYC! Near the apartment we also had a 24 hour Supermarket, a large chemist, a Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and other eateries, even a public swimming pool in a nearby Park. The neighbourhood felt safe even when we arrived home later at Night. The trip to Midtown and Times Square only takes about 10 minutes on the subway. And it was brilliant to get away from all the Midtown Hubbub at the end of each day and back to a 'quieter' neighbourhood. We will definitely stay at San Fermin again, when we return to NYC in future. Bernardo is a brilliant host and we will recommend his B&B to all our friends too. Looking for a place to stay in New York? Look no further!

A nice comfortable bed, hot water, good water pressure, a fan and a/c (for the couple of days that is was quite hot), tea and coffee facilities and a small kitchen and refrigerator ... what more could you want?

Just 3 or 4 minutes walk from the Metro, around 15 minutes or less from Broadway and Times Square (on the express A train), and accessible to all the touristy areas of NYC by Metro or Bus ... with a Deli, Supermarket, Coffee Shop and Subway, Bank, and Pharmacy all within 5 minutes walk.

Bernardo was a charming host who was in his office each morning for two hours during which he was pleased to act as our personal tour planner with advice on what to do, where to go, which train to catch, where to eat, etc.

He recommended Londel’s Restaurant for dinner (just a five minute walk away) which we thoroughly enjoyed, and the Harlem Tavern for a Sunday Brunch and a few drinks (just two metro stops away at 116th St) see my review ... and the $1 Cream Cheese Bagel’s at Dave’s Deli (on the corner) were just as good as recommended in another review.

Harlem has had a lot of bad press over the years, but I felt as safe there as I do in my own home town. We walked miles around the streets of Harlem and not once did we see (or hear) even one adverse incident. We even had an elderly local wish us good evening as we passed on our way home from a Broadway Show at 12.30am.

We did have a little difficulty negotiating the metro stairs with our heavy suitcases, but must commend a couple of Harlem locals who came to our aid and assisted in carrying our cases.

Broaden your horizons and book the San Fermin Apartments for your next NYC holiday (if you can get in!). We certainly recommend it.
