“Rich and indulgent”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

We met a friend for breakfast. The food was rich and hearty for a winter morning. We chatted for hours but the staff was unobtrusive and allowed us to enjoy our time in peace.

“The Gramercy Tavern's Italian cousin may be the best of Danny Meyer's restaurants.”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

How can you compete with Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe and Eleven Madison, three of New York's favorites. Maiolino does and in my opinion may be the best of the group. My wife and I live one short block away and have celebrated our anniversary and other events here. We just spent Christman eve at Maiolino and as usual it was wonderful with interesting takes on Italian cuisine, a lively bar, great service. The one problem is trying to get a reservation. It's a bit expensive, but worth every cent.

“A taste of old Rome”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

On a recent trip to New York, we decided to eat at an authentic Italian. On the recommendation of the Sunday Telegraph in the UK we chose Maialino....quite simply the best Italian restaurant we have ever been to.

This is like stepping back to old Rome....sheer class, unbeatable service and food to die for. Everything is steeped in Italian influence and the setting is so warm, friendly and welcoming that we cancelled our next nights dinner engagement and returned to Maialino. We ate formally the first night and chose the suckling pig on recommendation...you will not be disappointed. My wife has peppered chicken and we ended up sharing as they were both so good.

The service - primarily Blake from St Louis was first class...he was so knowledgable about the menu and nothing was too much trouble.

The setting just off Grammercy Square was perfect and the ambience in the restaurant just made you never want to leave.

We returned the next day and decided instead of booking for dinner we decided to eat more casually in the bar area...which alone would beat most other restaurants dining facilities. All the food/drink is Italian and we settled for great IPA, white wine and pasta dishes.....very comforting in the winter conditions.

My fear in recommending Maialino is that this gem of a restaurant will no longer remain a gem......but hey ho give credit where credits due!!!!!!.....and they even presented complimentary pastries for my wife to take away. A totally class act at reasonable prices.

“Roasted pig is what it is all about”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Our Christmas Eve dinner was wonderful. The two of us shared the roasted pig and potatoes and must say we loved it. The potatoes were excellent as was the pork. The side dish of spinach was probably the best we have had and the soup was wonderful. We will go again when we are in NYC but will probably stick to the pig since we do not find the rest of the menu to be so interesting.
