I visited SPOT in the St. Marks area in October 29, 2011. It was recommended to me from my friends who live in NYC. We visited SPOT and it was on the first floor small and quaint. Make sure you pay attention or you may accidentally walk by it. The staff was nice and friendly and the place was busy with a wait. We ordered:
1. Thai Tea Creme Brulee which was unique and tasty with a small dish of creme brulee served with a wafer and a small cup of Thai Tea to compliment the creme brulee. I thought this was very unique and also very tasty.
2. Macarons:Green Tea, Chocolate Caramel, Red Velvet. All of these flavors were tasty. I never had a macaroon but these were pretty good and comes 3 for a certain price.
3. Lava Cake- this was oozing with goodness as the chocolate was super gooey in the middle of the cake. It came freshly out of the oven with a scoop of ice cream. Super delicious!
4. Thai Tea Boba- This was a normal Thai Tea with Boba but i loved there mix. It was not overly sweet or overly cremed. Perfect combination.

Overall, I found SPOT very unique with there desserts. They infused different Asian ingredients with American signature desserts. The staff was very nice and on it with the service. We had a mishap with our Lave cake that ended up taking extra 10 minutes and the management delivered a complimentary cupcakes while we wait without being asked. Also, if you plan to frequent this location they offer a SPOT VIP card where you can collect 9 stamps to get your 10th as a free item. Also, you can "check in" to get deals.

If you get a chance check this place out! It is worth it for their unique desserts!

I could never have known about this place if it were not for my local friends, and I am SO glad I did... The menu was innovative the presentation creative, and the desserts themselves were absolutely delicious! I don't really have a major sweet tooth so I''m not one to spend a lot on desserts but I'm definitely going back to Spot the next time I'm in the city. Good job guys!

Pichet Ong (top Asian pastry chef formerly known for his previous cafe, P*ong) has launched a new venture on St. Marks Place. Since I had never had the chance to make it to P*ong, I jumped at the opportunity to sample his confections at this new Spot (literally!).

My friends and I were traipsing through the East Village in the pouring rain one evening with the hopes of finding a fun destination to satisfy our sweet tooth's. So, I convinced my companions to scout out this new cafe. After unsuccessfully circling the crazy St. Marks block between Astor Place and 3rd Avenue, our search was almost rendered futile. This adorable spot was very hard to find, being that it was located in a basement floor on the north side of the street. However, once we found it and saw how sleek and modern it was, we were quite excited to give it a try.

We entered the small space, with its oddly adorned entrance way covered with plastic grass carpeting. We hung our wet coats and umbrellas on the thoughtfully provided hooks and scanned the crowded room for some seats. The tight space only contained a few tables (ranging in different sizes) and an open display counter, so it was definitely hard to get a spot during this popular dessert time. Luckily, we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated directly in front of the open kitchen space behind the counter. From here, we were able to observe the delicate preparation of each dish's plating. Every dessert was presented like a work of art with layers of garnish.

The unique menu contained various dessert "tapas", which were basically cakes portioned for only one person. Yet, we had no fear, because there were cookies, cupcakes, ice creams, and sorbets that could be shared as well. A topping menu included wacky options such as Passion Fruit Foam and Poached Pears.

After a lengthy contemplation, I ordered the Passion Fruit Banana Sorbet topped with Poached Persimmon. Thanks to the visible prep area, I saw a dessert plater accidentally use raspberries as my topping, realize it was to be persimmon, and remove the berries with her hands! One of her colleagues interjected and replaced them, by spoon, with the persimmon. It was rather off-putting. The sorbet, however, was light and fruity. It contained several passion fruit seeds, which were a nice, natural touch. I also enjoyed my Chamoile Citrus Tea, which the attentive waitress continually topped off with hot water.

One of my friends ordered scoops of the Condensed Milk and Ovaltine Ice Creams, topped with chocolate cookie crumbs. The Ovaltine was decent, but tasted like any generic chocolate flavor. It was nothing special, and he did not really enjoy it. However, he did like the condensed milk variety.

The third buddy in our group attempted to order an Iced Black Milk Bubble Tea, but Spot was strangely out of tapioca balls, so he had to enjoy the beverage without them. He also sampled the White Miso Semifreddo, which was a moist sponge cake topped with salt and filled with a layer of white miso cream. The pasty essence gave off a strong and unique flavor that was definitely an acquired taste. We then knew why miso was rarely utilized in sweet dishes.

We were stuffed after a prior large meal and our individual desserts, but everyone around us seemed to be ordering an endless number of sweet plates. Their sampling buffet encouraged us to order a Green Tea Cupcake. The base of chocolate cake was flavorful, but dry. A small amount of sweet raspberry jam filling was nice touch. The green tea frosting was airy and oozed green leaf flavor. The delicious snack was topped with chocolate cookie crunchies and edible sparkles. We also gorged ourselves on the Yuzu Eskimo, which tasted like a refreshing, citrusy key lime pie, which was baked into a chocolate cookie crust. It was garnished with raspberry green tea sorbet, raspberry puree, and chocolate cookie bits. The treat was just sweet enough and possessed a great texture balance.

We were stuffed, but midnight was approaching Spot's consumer traffic was slowing. The eager, friendly waitress was trying to get rid of the day's remaining goods and introduce us to the place, so she regaled us with another free cupcake of our choice. We opted for the Vanilla Almond Coconut version, which sadly possessed a dry vanilla cake, a bland whipped cream frosting topped with coconut, and a minuscule amount of flavorful almond custard inside. We honestly conveyed that we were much fonder of the Green Tea concoction, which led her to grant us a sample of try their new menu item - a swirled roll-up of yellow cake intertwined with raspberry jam. The cake was moist and spongy, but had no flavor. It was also over-powered by the uber-sweet jam.

Spot was a sweet and overwhelmingly inclusive way to end our culinary evening. The service was fantastic, but the desserts were mixed. If possible, I would give it 3.5 star rating.
